NEW YORK April 48 Tho trinl of
'Albert Woltor tlio 18-ycar.old slayer
vd RUth "Wheeler begun In general
sessions court here today Is expected
to develop the most sensational mur-
der trial In years.
Tho prosecution will nttempt to
shoy that Woltor not only lured the
Whcelor girl to his apartments through
promise of employment and there mur-
dered her when Bhe refused his de-
mands but tho numbers or other glrla
wore lured there In the same manner
'and noB&ibly met the same fate. Wol
ter denies that he killed the "Wheeler
"girl and claims that she was killed by
someone else who entered his flat.
. Wolter's chief witness will doubtless
be his sweetheart pretty Katherlne
Mueller.- When she first heard of the
crime with which her Iovor 'was charg-
ed she Immediately became" indignant
She promised the detectives to do all
in her power to aid them In solving the
case.. She even went' so far as to de-
nlnro thnf Rhn helloVftfl Woltor Etlllty.
"Why what business did she have fool-
Jnc around that flroplace and what
Was tho fire board removed and pain-
ted for'' she at one time asked an of.
" fleer. Then she wrote Wolter a num
ber of letters. In each of these she)
urged him to tell "all." This led tho
detectives to believe that sho knew all
about the crime and was urging Wolter
to confess. But further Investigation
sljbWed that the girl was without actu-
al knowledge of the crlnie.
Slnco then Kathorlne alueller has
. changed her attitude. She now de-
clares that sho believes that Wolter Is
innocent that Bile has belleyedso ever
B.lnco his arrest and that ahodid not
know that she was urging him to con-
fess when she wrote tho lettors.
Katherlne sayB Bhe loves Wolter
more than anyone fn the world. She
snytf she dops not believe that he Is
.guilty and that even were the gully
that sho still would love him and
would marry him.
In Kooui at Hie Time."
"There are only two things against
Albert in this casc'she has since said.
"That's tho umbrella being thero and
Ids getting up at night and fixing the
fireplace. I didn't think anything

in the closet. 1 didn't even ask about
it. And I didn't thinlc anything of life

stove away from before the flreplnco.
So I thought nothing of his pottering
about the fireplace nutil 1 saw
law It in
the newspapers. .
"Dut I don't believe he ever killed
the glrlt because he was always good
. to me. If a man's mean he'll show It
after awhile to the woman that lives-
with him; and we'd been togethor for
ten months.
"Ho never struck me. Ho never
spoke an unkind work to me. That's
tho reason I got to think so much of
him. He never spoke a cross word. I
nevcrsaw him out of temper. He was
always pleasant. That'B the kind of
a man tnat an gins hko.
Katherlne was in the room nt tho
time the crime is supposed to have
been committed and1 her evidence of
course will be most important. She
declares that rihe was in the room
henjuth Wheeler came to visit Wol-
ter saw them talk and then herself
Jet the girl out of the house when she
left Jluth Wheeler was murdered
after" she left the lioUBe sho believes.
