27.000 Prisoners Are Taken
The war situation for Saturday ia summarize J by the Aikch iatt-d Press as follows :
Over a front of more than 250 miles from the North sea to Verdun the allies arc rma.l.infr
! into the German defenses on four wide and important sritors. The enemy is faced with the grct-
rit allied offensive effort since the beginning of tho vvnr. '
On all the settors the British French American and Belgian troops are progressing sur-csa-fully.
Serious inroads are being made into the German defensive system north of Ypret around
Cambrai north of the Aisne and on the Champa r no-Verdun sector. Additional prisoners have been
added to the ellied total of 27000 for the last three diys and several hundred more guns of all cal-
ibres have been taken from the enemy.
Vital successes are being gained by the Brit sh in their new drive for Camhrai in which Amrr-
ican troops are aiding in the region west of Le Catelct. The capture of Cambrai by the British would
appear to be necessary. Frc m the west the British are within one and three-quarters miles of Cam-
brai at two points and all natural obstacles have been overcome. The same is true on the north
where the British arc pushirr; forward rapidly. Southwest of Cambrai Hold Marshal llvig' men
