river was still steadily rising Tier
Thursday. The only encouraging news
comes from up river point where the
water was retiorted to be stationary
or falling. The water here has now
gone over Front street south of Ilrblge
street. Many resiliences lire complete-
ly surrounded by the deep and swift
current. Workmen are struggling
frantically to keep the north end of
the dyke from going to piece and It
seem to be about an even chance
whether they will succeed.

Caused Discussion
Jsrksnn Mis. Jun I. The motion
of Colonel Osborne of the Inulvlle
committee "n airangements In tender-
ing Invitations to King Kdward nnd
President Roosevelt to send messenger
to the approaching reunion has caused
a great deal of diwuaalon among Con-
federate veteran In this state and In
many nuatlers I being severely con-
demned. As a rule veterans take the
view that while there ta nothing objec-
tionable In having representatives of
these tw-o rulers at the reunion at the
same time the action of Colonel Os-
borne was unauthorized.
