whic h struck in the midst of the crowd.
Instantly killing five of the spectators
and Injuring twenty-five others more

Seriously Injured: John Yorkers
and Fred Johnson. Among the painful-
ly Injured were Fred Iturch Joe Dol-
bear and OeorRO Cleveland.
Some fifteen or twenty others were
shocked nnd knocked down by the
stroke who qulc-kly rerovered nnd
were able to leave the scene. The
fifld was covered with bits of shoe
and clothing from thoae who were kill-
ed or serloimljr Injured and the bodies
of the dead presented a terrible spec-
tacle being burned In numerous
places. A silver dollar taken from
the pocket of one of the victims was
melted on bo -4 sides.
Brakeman Loses His Life.

Senator Morgan So Characterizes Ac-
tion of the President.
Washington May 28. Senator Mor
gan Monday speaking on the Tanama
canal resolution held that there had
been abuse of power by the president
in the zone. No member of congress
he said would dare Introduce a bill
for a law to carry out what the presi
dent had done.

Car Destroyed.
Houston. May 2.H. While disinfect-
ing passenger cars at the Central de-
pot Monday morning a gas line took
fire. One car was destroyed and two
others partly.
DISPOSAL OF FAIR GROUNDS.
Mr. J. V. Datts who is promot-
ing a reorganization of the Central
Texas Fair informed the Eagle
last night that he had secured up
to that time $920.00 forty six
stockholders having each taken
one $20 share. The purpose is to
take over the mortgage on the
property held by the Firt-t nation-
al bank which will probably be
done this morning and later to
purchase the property. Reorgani-
zation will be effected at an early
date and a race meet will be held
this fall amounting to about what
the last fair did. The Eagle will
le glad ta see the enWrprift reviv-
ed and continued on a stable basis.
PROPOSALS.
Sealed bids will be received at
the president's olllee at the A. and
M. College of Texas until 10 o'clock
a. m. Saturday June 2d. for the
privilege of a lunch stand on the
campus during the commencement
exercises. No intoxicating liquors
of any kind will be allowed on the
grouods. The privilege will extend
to ice cream soda water lemonade
fruits aud cigars in addition to the
lunch sale.
The right is reserved to reject any
