With Whits Girl and Arrested.
Louisville July 24. Henry Clayter.
a negro was arrested Monday at Chi-
cago where he was about to marry a
white girl with whom he had eloped
from Irvlngton. Ky. He was placed In
Jail here Tuesday for safekeeping.
Word was received by the local police

Miscreants Make an Unsuccessful At
tempt to Wreck a Train.
Houston. July 21. Train wreckers
attempted to ditch the Elks' special
which arrived Tuesday morning bring-
ing home the Houston delegation from
Denver. A steel brakebeam was placed
on the track at Canaan. The timely
discovery of the engineer saved a bad
wreck although the train was delayed
and hour and a half.

County Commissioner Nixon of Pre-

Anadarko Okla. July 24 The plant
of the Anadarko Democrat originally
owned and operated by I T. Russell
editor of the Ardmore Democrat was

Frightful Calamity In Which Several
Persona Are Drowned.
Spokane. Wash. Juh- 24 The en-
gine cxpressrar and smoking car of
the (ireat Northern fast train west-
bound are submerged In tho deep
waters of Diamond lake one and one-
half miles west of Camden about
twenty miles west of Spokane. Nine
men who went down In the smoking
car were drowned and also engine
crew. When the trln came through
the tunnel the rails spread and the
engine plunged dow n a sixty foot em-
bankment Into the lake followed by
the express car and smoking car. The
remainder of the train k:pt the track.

The wreck caught fire from Illuminat-
ing gas but the flamea were extin-
guished. One man In the day coach
was fatally Injured by the exploelon
of the gas tank.

Engineer Andrews Is Pinioned Under
Locomotive and Crushed to Death.
Shreveport. July 24. The engine of
local freight train No. tS en the Kan-
sas City Southern was overturned In a
collision with a bunch of cattle Just
outside of the local yards here Mon-
day. The dead: Frank Andrew en-
gineer of Shreveport. The Injured:
George Nolton. fireman of Shreve-
port. Andrews waa pinioned under the en-
gine and badly crushed. He was In
point of service one of the oldest en-
gineers on this division of the Kans.- t
City Southern.
