Belasco wife of the senior pratner of
the Alcazar theater and known on
the stage as Juliet Crosby died sud-
denly and an hour later M. L. Mayer.
Mr. Uelascos partner when Informed

The Belasco and Mayer families liv-
ed In adjoining flats on Sutter street

portation or for observation. Com-
plaint haa been made to the Italian
ambassador that those not permitted
to land and held either for deportation
or for medical observation are placed
In prison pending final disposition of
their cases.
The ambassador haa presented the
matter to the state department la a
vigorous manner. He says thee per-
sons are not criminals and ought not
to be treated as aurh.
Correspondence between the bureau
of Immigration and officials of the bu-
reau at New Orleans shews that 4 he
matter haa been taken up with the
steamship company responsible for the
safe keeping of such Immigrants aa
are for observation or ordered to be
deported. Arrangements are being
made for the proper care of the latml
grants and It la the lateatlon of Com
mlssloner Sargent to see that the
Steamship company completes the ar
