Mrs. C. E. McClellan left Thurs-
day for Dallas where she will visit
home folks for several weeks.
It is reported that B. D. McLarry
has quit the lower country and
moved to Lubbock.
Mrs. Watkins of Deming N. M.
was the guest of Mrs. Jordan Fri-
day returning home Saturday.

Eugene Yates of Mt. Leonard
Missouri moved here last week and
on Monday opened up the Rogerson
Hotel for business.
Nothing much of local conse-
quence has come under the obser-
vation of The News reporter this
week.
Mrs. Cieo. A. Brandon after a
visit of some three weeks among
relatives at the old home and at
Waco with her son Walter re-
turned home Tuesday.

D. Derden wife and daughter
of Hillsboro acquaintances of Judge
Eakman were in town Tuesday.
They are coming to the Plains and
may move to this town.
Mrs. Reeves and Mrs. T. F.
Reid left yesterday for Cleburne
:md from there sometime next
week they will -proceed to the
Dallas fair.
Wade Stephenson and wife left
vesterday on a visit to relatives at
Hillsboro. Thev will be absent
about two weeks and while away
expect to attend the fair at Dallas
A. H. Clinton a newspaper man
of Denver Col. was a caller with
us Friday. He owns a section in
Hale county and was on his way to
see it and may move down there
Cattle Trades.
Tuesday Edgar Money sold to
McCluskey 14 steer calves at
$12 and 22 steer yearlings tops at
$16.50 and 3 cut-backs at $40
lump.
J. A. Wallace purchased from J.
A. Grundy Tuesday 71 grade
calves including both sexes at $8.50
and from G. C. Long 13 head of
mixed stock cattle at $12.
G. L. Abbot purchased the Dr.
Howell calves over 200 with la's
per cent cut at $12. These are a
nice lot and high grades.
J. A. Wallace has sold his resi
dence to John Guthrie at $2000
and through B. Frank Buie has
purchased the T. W. Barrett sec-
tion west of town for $4200 with
possession January 1st.
H. C. Rogerson is having the
barber shop re-papered and painted
inside and "Tom" says that by
next week they will have added to
all this improvement a linoleum
covering for the floor.

From what the shoe manufac
turers are now saying about the
price of leather Panhandle cattle
are now not bringing much more
than their hides ought to be worth.
About a hundred prospectors
visited us last week but not near
the business was done in the way
of sales as formerly. It was a
case of too many "spoiling the
broth."
Judge Eakman has purchased
the C. R. Burrow residence at
400 and expects to . move in
there about the first. Mr. Burrow
says he will build again but not be
fore next year.
C W. Jochen of Umbarger call
ed in Tuesday and passed in one
dollar for a subscription for his
brother Albert Jochen of Flatonia
Texas. Mr. Jochen says that his
crops are bountiful and greater than
he can manage to care for properly.
The best items of local news this
week are to be found in our adver-
tising columns. Read what our
business men have to say and keep
up with the changes. It will pay

On the 14th C.T. Word shipped
to the Kansas City markets fifteen
cars of cows and speyed heifers.
They were a nice clean lot of cattle
and in line shape but they struck
the market on a "bad day" and
Mr. Word failed to realize what he
expected for them.

ents of croupy children should
be on the alert for ominous

There is a nice display ad of
Canyon City and surrounding
country in the Chicago Inter Ocean
of Oct. 20. It was gotton up and
paid for to the tune of several hun-
dred dollars by several of our en-
terprising citizens principally real
estate men.
Since last issue of The News
two railroad grading outfits aggre
gating some thirty wagons with
scrapers loose mules horses and a
mixed lot uf folks black and white
have passed through here going
southward. Evidently going into
camps not far off until work opens
on our new railroad.
Miss McWhirter who has spent
the summer vith her sister Mrs.
A. S. Rollins returned to her home
Fort Worth yesterday. Mrs. Rol-
lins went with her expecting to re-
main down there until after Christ-
mas. Hereford had a fine farm exhibit
at the Kansas City fair. It was
not only checked through free by
the Santa Fe but that railroad also
furnished at its own expense a good
stand for its display. Randall may
ret in line "arter" awhile.
