800 bales of May cotton were secured
by Frank U. Haynes this morning
when lie threw the cotton exchange
into great excitement by offering to
buy 1000(10 batos of May or July at
the market price and offered to take
all the spot cotton In the city at one-
eighth over quotations.
Mr. Haynes said his offer will stand
nil day.

Supreme Court Knocked Out Dallas
Ordinance Which Defined Reser-

Austin Texas May 17. In a de-
cision affecting all the cities in the
state which maintain reservations the
supreme court today knocked out the
ordinance of Pallas which defined a
reservation for bawdy houses.
The court held that no city charter
can define such reservation; only the
legislature can do so.

Supreme Court Says Clubs Do Not
Violate the Law In Selling Whis-
ky Exclusively to Members.

Austin Texas May 17. The su-
preme court decided this morning that
Texas charter dubs such as country
lodge fcnd private clubs do not violate
the law In maintaining sideboards and
selling whisky and beer to their mem-
bers exclusively.
This decision Is the result of a suit
brought by Assistant Attorney Gen-
eral C. E. Lane at the Instance of
Governor Colquitt. Mr. Lane is the
governor's legal adviser.
Clubs Organized as Subterfuge Are
Unlawful.
In its opinion the supreme court
holds that no state licenses axe re-
quired. It holds that clubs organized
as mere subterfuges are unlawful.
