Really someone ought to arrange a
meeting between Sir Arthur Conan
Doyle and Mr. William J. Burns.

The names of Mr. William J. Bryan
and Mr. Robert L. Henry should also
by all means be Included. With such
a quartette the "devils of the money

of the "financial mafia" would no
doubt be run to earth.
AIIIIOUIICEMEIITS
The Eagle does not share In the
idea advanced by some of the papers
of the state that a man needs already
to have set the world on fire before
he aspires to public office. Many a
man has mounted high the ladder who
has not half the ability of thousand;
who are still on the ground. Besides
there must be a beginning. .
yy
It is Bald that congress is preparing
to lay the United States army condi
tions and some of its chief officers on
the operating table for a thorough dis-
secting. We fear the operation has
been so long deferred that gangrene
and blood poisoning have already set
up and the condition of the patient is
now hopeless.
' The Eagle Is authorized to make the
following announcements subject to
the democratic primary to be held on
July 22 1912:
For Congress:
Hon. Rufus Hardy of Corsicana
Sixth district.
YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO MISS IT.

would our town be? Belton Journal.
That rings the bell.
And It applies everywhere.
If every citizen of Waco were just
like me what kind of a town would
our town be?
LefB get It by heart brethren be-
loved of Waco.
Say It over again before you put the
paper down brother.
Are you ready? '
If every citizen of Waco were Just

Times-Herald.
Men of Bryan there is the Idea in a
nutshell. Keep it In your hat by day
and under your pillow at night.
Who am I?
What am I doing for Bryan?
Am I a paying member of the Com
mercial Club?
Have I contributed my full quota of
time and money to the upbuilding of
Bryan?
Am I a friend of the schoolB and if
so how can I prove It?
Do I say a good word for Bryan
whenever I can?
Do I spend my money at home or
do I send it away to an out-of-town
concern and kiss it good-bye forever?
Are there many more like me and
if there were would not the city be
in a hell of a fix
Come across Brethren Beloved be
honest about It and get right.
What Is known as the front foot
paving plan Is popular In the cities of
Texas. This plan Is for' the property
owners on either side of the street to
pay for the paving in front of their
property one-third across the street
and the city pay the other third. On
this plan Main street could be paved
and nobody hurt.
In.plauning for street Improvements
in Bryan proper drainage is among the
things now most needed. There are a
number of holes of standing water In
different places in the city and after
each rain there are several on Main
street. Properly drained so tho water
would run off quickly would largely
do away with the mud nuisance.

Senator Root's advocacy of Mr. Taft
has a significance not less than that
of the eight Roosevelt governors.
New York World.
It seems almost foolish to summon
Mr. Bryan to Washington to tell what
he thinks he knows when that Is his
constant occupation all over the coun-
try. Providence Journal.
STATE NEWS BRIEFS
Another swell function has been
pulled off in Washington and one of
the guests had on display a $75000
diamond necklace clasped around her
swan-like neck. Unfortunately she did
not hire any detectives to atch It
