Tells engagement
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. Thigpen of Omaha have an-
nounced the engagement and approaching marriage
of their daughter, Dee Ann, to James Marshall Cook
of Hughes Springs. Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Cook of
Hughes Springs are parents of the future bridegroom.
Miss Thigpen is a graduate of Paul H. Pewitt High
School and attended East Texas State University
where she was pledged to Alpha Phi social sorority.
Mr. Cook graduated from Hughes Springs High School
and attended Kilgore Junior College. He is currently
employed in the fire department at Lone Star Steel
Company. The wedding will be an event of May 3rd at
the First Methodist Church in Omaha with the Rev.
Leslie Griffin of Katy officiating. No invitations are
being sent locally but friends and relatives are in-
vited to attend.
Dinner honors Mrs. Falls
The regular monthly
meeting of the Martha
Laird chapter of the
Daughters of the Ameri-
can Revolution was held
Saturday afternoon at the
home of Miss Virgie Beth
Hughes in Mt. Vernon.
Hostesses were Mrs.
D. B. Maxton, Mrs. Frank
Burns, Mrs. M. F. Flem-
ing, Mrs. Kenneth Meek
and Mrs. R. T. Wilkinson
Jr.
Mrs. Jack Firmin,
regent, called the meet-
ing to order. Mrs. L. E.
Lamb, chaplain, gave the
devotional.
Mrs. J. H. McGuireled
the singing of the "Na-
tional Anthem" and Mrs.
Charlie Winkle played the
piano accompaniment.
Mrs. William Dunlap
gave the president gen-
eral's message, and Mrs.
Joe Embrey the national
defense.
The program was "Pa-
triotism in Education", a
panel discussion held by
Mrs. Gerald Hampton,
Mrs. Herbert Harris and
Mrs. Byrd McAfee.
During the social hour
the hostesses served a
salad and dessert plate.

silver service, Mrs. Em-
brey served salad and
