MRS. J. D. MAY AND CAROLYN
Mrs. J. D. (Buddy) May
doesn't have enough time
for many hobbies.
Joan is too busy with
her small garden, which
produces corn, tomatoes,
squash and peas. She does
most of the work, gath-
ering and freezing of what
the garden grows.
One of her greatest de-
lights has always been
cooking but she says she
has cut way back on that
now, especially sweets
since they are too fatten-
ing.
She doesn t bake three
or four cakes a week the
way she used to.
Joan also sells Stan-
ley products.
She still finds time to
enjoy one of her favor-
ite recreations playing
bridge — occasionally.
She has done a few de-
coupage pieces and wants
to do more.
The Mays are member -
of the Methodist Church
The family includes Joe
Dan, who will be a sen-
ior at Pewitt High next
year, and Carolyn, a
sophomore.
Joan's recipe for bis-
cuits turns out unusually
good ones using liquid
shortening. She got it
many years ago from
Buddy's aunt, Mrs. Clyde
Bost, formerly of Omaha
and now of Mt. Pleasant.
BISCUITS
1 1 /2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking
powder
1 /2 teaspoon salt
1 cup sweet milk
1/4 cup liquid short-
ening
Put all ingredients to-
gether and mix well.
Place dough on floured
board and work thorough-
ly, adding more flour if
necessary.
Cut into small rounds,
and place in lightly greas-
ed pan. Bake at about 400
degrees until they are
lightly brown.
One of the family's fa-
vorite desserts is cream
cheese blueberry pie. The
recipe for it came from
Buddy's mother, Mrs. J.
D. May of El Paso, for-
merly of Omaha.
