Whoop up Atlanta. It is the
best cotton market and general
trading point in East Texas.
*,£ * *■" • ' >• " -
Bryan has been shelling the
Republican camp. The enemy
is somewhat demoralized.
— ——
Cotton has been declining in
market value this week, Better
not market too fast.
Two bales of cotton make an
average load for an average
team with our roads.
Street Commisioner, J M
Pepper, has been doing some
much needed work on the
strees,
Give us better roads and a
few factories, however small
and Atlanta will come to the
front.
Keep the front and back of
your place of business clean.
The City Marshall may wait
upon you.
J B O'Farrel, who has just
returned from a trip over West
and South Texas, says that Cass
county beats them all.
Help the city authorities in
their efforts to givo us better
streets and side walks. These
things add to the value of your
property.
It is a small matter to get two
tons of hay from an acre in pea-
nuts. You can plant them af-
ter you have gathered your po-
tatoes.
The street commissioner has
been doing some good, grading
on West Hiram street. There
are other streets, though not so
public, which are in bad condi-
tion. v
We have before ur a copy of
the Irion county Record, Sher-
wood, Texas, with D M West
and L P Henslee at the mast
head. It is well edited and well
patronized. We welcome it as
an exchange.
Sears & Roebuck do a big
mail order business. They do
an extensive advertising busi-
ness. They put their catalogs
in the hands of the people.
Besides they use the public
press to push their business.
Where is Cass County's
game warden? Where is any
old game warden? It is repor-
ted that birds are being killed
out of season. If wo have a
game law it should be enforced.
It is bad enough to slaughter the
birds during the open season.
But now we are killing our
friends and in express violation
of the law,
A fat hog at present
prices looks good to the
man who has hogs, but it has a
different look to the fellow who
has to buy. Get in the right
row, brother farmer. Raise
your living at home.
To Our Delinquents.
Walter McCasland has been
collecting some for the News. He
has seen a few persons who have
been reading the News since the
present management has had
charge, and the books show
that many of them have
been taking it longer without
paying anything. According to
a ruling of the post offico depart-
ment these were taken from our
list the first of April. This did
not settle the bill.' But now
when our collector approaches
them, some of them cuss blue
blazes and say they will not pay
a cent. Notices were sent these
same delinquents the first of the
year telling them the amount
due and kindly asking them to
come to this office, if they found
any error in their bills and it
would be made right. Some few
came and there was no Diffi-
culty in adjusting matters.
You have taken the paper.
You owe the debt just as much
as if you had gone to your gro-
cer and used his goods two or
three years without paying your
bill. All these small bills
amount to something to the
editor. Separately, they amount
to but little with you.
Now, don't cuss the collector.
If there is any error call at this
office and we will right it. Pay
us and we can pay our bills.
We would be glad to have
every one of you renew as read-
ers of the News. We are giv-
ing you a good paper, trying to
merit you patronage. Let us be
honest and fair, man to man.
Yours truly,
The Editor.
