Last week Friday night.Jthe Ab-
ilene Amateur Dramatic Company
came up on a special train and pre
seated to a first class audience at
the opera house the comic opera
'La Mascot." It was well render-
ed and the applause was unstinted.
Capt. Iiuell possesses dramatic tal-
ent in a high degree and his sing-
ing was full of feeling. Misses
.McConochie. Young and Huell
played the leading feminine parts
and executed some very merito-

acting was equal to any profes-
sional. Messrs. Kavaiiaugh Ar:
cher and Hampton in the leadihg
masculine parts did excellent
work. Mr. Kavaiiaugh is evident-

priate. The opera lasted until
eleven o'clock and the party start
ed on the homeward journey abou
midnight. Capt. and Mrs. Pickens
and Prof. Foust accompanied the
party as chaperones. Everybody

Again the angel of death Las visited i
the quiet city of Bull'alo Gap and has
summoned our Iriend and schoolmate!

Our pen staggers when we attempt to
j pay this little tribute to the memory of
jour departed friend. Death when he
comes to anyone chills our soul with
sorrow and grief but when hid felling i
pects for a successful future than he who

such a death as his is enough to touch
the tendered chords that vibrate in the
human breast.
He was a noble christian; no ono en-
joy d tlieir religion better than he and

abode to the hind ot eternal day.
He is gone but his memory will ever
be cherished by his friends who only

on the market for sale but the classifi-
cation is very unsatisfactory.

and grazing lands is $2 per acre though
some lauds on account of locatioti and
advantages are classed higher.

1 pound evanide of potassium and dis-
solve in 1 pint of warm water. Stir un-
til thoroughly dissolved then add the
cotTee and eggs. Keep out a part of the
potaetmiui to rinse the vessel ; dissolve
naif pound of pulverized stryehnine in 1
pint of alcohol aud add potassium and
coilee ; rinse the vessel and add what is
left to the above mixture and stir thor-
oughly ; then to 2$ gallons corn syrup
in a large pan add the chemicals and
tir well. Then put 240 pounds of wheat
in a box 5 feet long 2 feet wide and I
foot deep; then pour the entire mixture
over Uie wheat and stir until the whole
mass s thoroughly mixed then add
slowly 50 pounds of corn meal stirring
at thr same time until the wheat and
meal are well mixed. It is now ready
for use. Drop a tableepoonful near the
entrance to each dog hole and you will
soon be rid of the prairie dogs.'
