Black quills will flourish exten-
sively in hats.
Ostrich feather boas a yard long
still continue popular.
Oriental diaigns oa colored sat-
ins are made up in blouses.
Magneta umbrellas are new.
Their brightness commends them
for gloomy stormy days.
Crepon and rough effects in
wool are the leading cloths. Some
cost as much as $4.75 per yard.
Deep collars of handsome lace
in white ecru and beurr shades
will be worn with winter house
gowns.
An evening blouse of accordion
plaited white chiffon has sleeves
crush collar and girdle of white
Liberty satin.
A pretty desk is a convenience
for any woman and an ornament
to her room but to the woman
who writes it is a necessity.
The outspread Valkyrie wings
that are worn in single or double
pairs give the headgear that they
trim a light airy appearance.
Tiny jewelled side combs are
the fashionable girl's latest fad.
Some awfully pretty conceits are
bring shown in pearls and bril-
liants. The dainty sets of side combs
shown by jewelers are very inex
pensive. These combs are of shell
entirely plain or ornamented with
gold or silver filigree work.
The French women wear elbew
sleeves on all their gowns even
for day wear It is hardly a pret-
ty fashion unless the whole toilet
is dainty enough to make it in
keeping.
A very handsome wrap for eve-
ning is a silver fox which is even
richer and more expensive than
ermine. Collars of sable and mar-
tin will be worn in the street and
miniver will be extensively used
for opera and theatre wraps.
Double breasted bolero jackets
of Persian lamb are very modish
and handsome. These have very
full sleeves also of the fur. These
jackets have short wide reverse
and rolled collar and are worn
over waists or blouses correspond-
ing with the skirt of the costume.
Pooling Bill Passed.
Washington- Dec. 12. The
house was engaged all day in dis-
posing of the bill to permit pool-
ing among railroads. This bill
has been before that body ever
since it met this session except
now and then when it was tempor-
arily set aside for the disposal of
special matter. Mr. Greshara
made a speech in favor of it yester
day and he says that the passage
of the law will be of great benefit
to Texas and other points remote
from the thickly populated parts
of the country.

jLookiag After Spain.
Madrid Dec. 17. Mr. Taylor
the United States Minister to-day
had an important conference with
Senor GrioasH Minister of For-
eign Affairs relative to the impos-
ition of excessive duties upon im-
ports into Cuba from the United
States. He informed the Senor
that he had been directed by his
Government to inform the Govern-
ment of Spain that if it persisted
in exacting these discriminating
duties the action would be regard-
ed by the President only as invit-
ing the exercise by him of the
power of retaliation conferred by
the act of 1890. This treaty has
caused commotion in ministerial
circles.

is that it might be the means of a

the true moral principles that
should characterize every .com-

of feeling that should mutually ex-

with you to-night in the discussion
of this great question Wpman
Suffrage a question that is begin-

be met with all the polemic chiv-
alry and gallant courtesy that is
due the distinguished representa-
tives of a distinguished Society.
And gentlemen let me further as-

question now pending that we
will ever esteem it as an honor to
have met you in debate (even
though we may suffer defeat at
your hands) that you shall always
retain a place in our hearts and

more than suffice the use of the

Then welcome to our festal

And now gentlemen while we
minister to your temporal wants

thousand years and their sex des-

But leaving these predicted re-

again bid you welcome and trust
that you will be both profitably

your stay among us ane that we
too shall be benefitted by your

steam generated by the heatin

At the windows of the tellers
there might be small concealed

could be opperated by hidden lo-

Every fort could have jets. No

as a good head of steam was kepi

The populist land plank is an
enigma to Gov. Hogg. He says: '! f
land is to be free and the improve-
ments not taxed and they are op-
posed to a tariff for a revenue on-
ly how would they run the gov-

understand. They are simply a

The low price of cotton will
bring disasters upon the South
that have not been felt so far.
The fact that cotton cannot be
made a profitable crop at present
prices will force many Southern
merchants who have in former
years taken cotton crops as secur-
ity for supplies to abandon that
plan and in all probability estab-
lish the cash 'system in many in-
stances. Thus thoBe who have
always depended on giving a
mortgage on a stated number of
acres of cotton for their supplies
will find their condition deplora-
ble and until conditions change
will be compelled to economize to
that extedt that destitution will
prevail among the poorer classes.
