GENERAL FUNSTON REBUKED BV
BY BISHOP CHANDLER.
There Is very little doubt aboutTGea.
eral Funston being a brave soldier and
a good General. He has demonstrated
more than once that lie knows how to
fight and the American people are
proud of hint bat when that Is said it
is perhaps hetter to 'stop as the Gen-
eral seems to hare poor Judgment
along other lines certainly when It
tomes to matters connected with the
religious side of life. It wo thought
that hUs order which virtually prohibits
Baptists and Methodists from preach-
ing to the soldiers would be allowed to
stand we should feel a deal more like
taking up arms to fight for real liberty
than we do to fight the Mexicans. The
g. tatest possession of the people of the
I nited States Is religious liberty. Take
that away and the foundation of our
government crumbles. Funston nor no
other man should be allowed to dic-
tate who or what doctrine shall be
preached to the soldiers of the United
States. Gire every denomination n
chance to preach and leave It to U
soldiers to hear them or stay away.
Force no man to hear anything but
give every man a chance to hear every
body. To order that a preacher cannot
tell the soldiers that they are lost Is to
close the door to Baptists Methodists
Priibyterians Christians and many
other Self respecting ministers of
thoje denominations will not preach
unless they can preach what thoy be-
lieve the Bible teaches and the doc-
tr r that men are loet who have not
accepted Christ as their1 personal sav-
ior is fundamental with all of the de-
nominations named.
Discussing tho Incident the Brown-
