what we have.
' Abllcac Present Hud Future.
Abilene is at present a marvel
among tho small towns of West-
ern Texas arid we might say tho
bntiro South. She has possibly
more baso material reaouroos
upon whioji to predicate a larger
oky superstructure than many of
our unthinking residents may
suppose.
Her surrounding agricultural
territory is rapidly developing
into one of the best ootton and
small grain sections of the
state. With a population of
energetio. enterprising and patri-
otic men and women who have in
the past made her what she is to-
day can it be doubted that she
will continue to look to her ma-
terial commercial interests in the
future. Most delightfully situa
ted olimatioally her health ad-
vantages are known over the en-
tire countryi She has public
buildings national state county
and city that speak wellf or them-
selves. Her ohuroh and sohool
advantages are excellent. Her
location as a common point ena
pies her.' -progressive merchants
to handler goods in bulk and-
r
she-; is 'fast becoming a
distributing 'point for the small
towns over this entire seotion.
J3he has every advantage that
would tend to build her into a
oity of magnitude commercially
and naturally.
But with so much in her favor
Abilene to holdi her controlling
position at the very head of the
towns of West Texas must dis
pel her great amount of over-
confidence in an ideal future.
The present is one of the most
oritiqal times in her existence.
Other seotions are contending for
advantages which she now pos-
'8esse8 and unless she is vigilant
and watchful taking the situa-'
tion well in hand she may in a
very short time lose all that she
has.aoquired in thesyears of her
existenoe.
One thing she needs above all
others and'without it though she
may continue to exist she will
not enjoy the future supremacy
to which she isentitled. A con-
nection of the Gulf d: Territorial
systems of railroad crossings her
trunk line is a necessity that ap-
peals to every citizen of his
qonntry and if they evince but
the same amount of liberality'and
zeal that has 'characterized them
in the past they can supply this
want. '
A road from Coleman to Abi-
lene would connect her with the
Gulf system and this road could
be extended to. some point to. the
north of us either Seymour Ver-
non Quanah or Amarillo thus
oonnfiotihg her with the Territor

Wo may bo ymrdohod if we offer
a suggestion.
The last bonus raised by our
people was some $80000 for a

timately in some one of the di-
rections indicated on the north.
Every possible reason would
exist for the aooeptanoe of suoh a

justify the extension.
This may appear fanoif ul and
visionary but it can be done if
the citizens of Abilene and Tay- I

they have taken hold of as diffi-

country town or a village. She
is already a bustling little me-

She needs only the.eledtrio spark
of confidence and push to. rise to

wings of prosperity and renewed
growth and excellence.
Ours-is only a suggestion if

Wheeling W. Va. May 28 1903.
Some years ago while at work r fell
over a truck and severely injured both
of my shins. My blood became poisoned
as a result and the doctor told me I
would have running sores for life and
that if they were healed- up the result
would be fatal. Under this discouraging
report I left off their treatment and re-
sorted to the use of S. S. S. Its effects
were prompt and gratifying. It took
only a short while for the medicine to en-
tirely cure up the sores and I am not
dead as the doctors intimated nor have
the sores ever broke out again. Some u
years have elapsed since what I have de-i
scribed occurred. Having been so signally
benefitted by its use I can heartily rccotn-
menu it as tne one great blood purifier.
