Is anything going to be done
toward getting Taylor county
authorized to vote additional
road tax? Business men of Ab-
ilene show a lamentable lack of
interest in a matter that concerns
them 'vitally and we cannot un -darstand
them. Do they want
their trade to go to other towns?
We have learned to quit doubt-
ing an occurrence simply because
we never witnessed a similar one
and pasB no judgementrupon the
report that Oklahoma City had
four feet of snow Tuesday after-
noon between four and fixe
o'clook whioh report is found in
.-our 'general news" oolumn.
The Fort Worth Record's corres-
pondent is responsible for the
statement. If four feet of snow
fell in one hour we can believe
that the flakes were as big as
aaugers. .

After a rather narrow market
yesterday in Amerioa and a
rather sensational closing of the
Liverpool future marketjWe have
this morning arise of. ten points
in spots in the English market
with future .contracts about 8
pointB lower. This would indi-
cate very heavy buying of spot
ootton for European spinners
and the. hedging of same by sell-
ing futures.
There seems to be an unprece-
dented demand .for spot cotton
just at present and if the pro-
ducer does not make the mistake
that all of them Beem about to
do viz : turn loose their ootton
at 7- cents then muoh higher
prioes will be seen.
What is true of this part of the.
country is true of the whole oot-
ton region and there seems to
be no end of cotton for sale at
7 oents here and at surrounding
towns. This is a great mistake
on the part of the farmer atf the
staple cannot hold at that price
for even a few days shoukj oot-
ton be rushed on theinarket as it
now seems that itwill be with the
ooming of a 7 oents basis.
So far holders have been very
firm hence the rise in prioe of
something like $4 per bale dur-
ing the past few weeks. Why
not hold a while longer and sell
sparingly and thus keep the de-
mand good and the prioe firm?
Port reoeipts are comparatively
heavy while reoeipts at interior
towns are extremely light. This
shows plainly that there is great
depletion of intorior stooks going
on and this will show up in the
visible supply statement whioh
comes out next Saturday and
will have a good effect on the
market nrovided faotors are not
swamped with offerings from
spot holders
The market is right now in a
condition where it oan be pushed
up $5. per bale or made to loee
