why, once a year we can give you uncomparable values in our annual "HONEST JOHN" SALE! Now Comes the Sale you have been wait-
ing for. A15 Day Value Giving Event That You Can't Afford to Miss! v rJ
Sale Starts Friday, Ian. 19, at 9:00 a.m.
A WORD FROM THE "BOSS"
DEAR FOLKS:—
We all make mistakes, sometimes. We made the mistake of buying too
much merchandise this fall. We have this little store packed and jammed
with fall goods. Then, too, it isn't all paid for. We are forced to sacrifice
our profit in order to raise"dough" to meet our bills. Our creditors have
tears in their eyes and malice in their hearts. No "fooling" we've got to
pay up. In order to stimulate some fast and furious buying we are going to
give you a Sale that you will always remember. We are not going to just
give you a few leaders for "bait"—we are going to slash the price on every
item in the store. By an "Honest John Sale" we mean that this sale is strict-
ly on the "up and up" and we are going to give you more for your dollar
than you have ever dreamed of receiving before!
Read over the prices that we are listing on this page and we guarantee
you that every item will be priced exactly as represented hereon. This is
going to be a genuine bonifide price slashing jubilee. We have turned
"Honest John" loose with unlimited power, with full instru«iJons to get the
business regardless of cost or market value of the merchandise-
COME and see for yourself that we are not "bluffing" but mean
business. We reserve the right to refuse to sell to competitive merchants.
These prices listed are for our retail trade only.
Yours truly,
W. L. COOK.

A MESSAGE FROM "HONEST JOHN"
DEAR BUYING PUBLIC:—
"Honest John" is coming to town. Just like Santa Claus in December—
it's "Honest John" in January. Some folks say, "Just who and what is
"Honest John?" Well, I'll tell you. I am a kind of ficticious character,
kind of a "Stooge" or something like Bergen's Charlie McCarthy. 1 don't
have veins, muscles nor bones but I do have a heart for the buying public,
and brains enough to know that you can't have a successful Sale without
"cutting prices." There is more to a sale than a big banner out in front—
you've got to have something inside for the buying public or else your big
banner and a million high pressure circulars won't get the job done. That's
why "Honest John" always closes the doors for one day and marks down ev-
ery single item in the store. There will be no exception in this Sale.
"Cook's" Store will be closed all day Thursday and all the hired hands will
be busy re-arranging the stock and slashing prices for the big event of the
year—"Cook's Honest John Sale!"
Now you know what it is all about folks so hitch n onr "Hcsses"
crank up the "Lizzie," ride a bicycle or "thumb" your way to another one of
"Cook's" Rip-Snorting, Rootin'-Tootin', Price-Slashing "Honest John" Sales
