JOE MEBANE
Joe Mebane of person-
nel scheduling has his
name in the news because
of citizenship, farming
and singing.
A native of Titus coun-
ty, Joe lives in the Win-
field area. The list of
credits to the citizenship
column in his ledger dates
back to World War II
when he served as chief
clerk of the Titus County
rationing board. He also
has a 17-year tenure as
secretary of the Winfield
school board behind him.
Civic service runs in
the family. Mrs. Mebane
has long been active in
home demonstration work
and has served as vice
president of District 5
which covers 19 counties
in Northeast Texa?.
He shares his wife's in-
terest. As a farmer and
cattleman, he has taken
an active interest in Titus
county agricultural af-
fairs for many years.
If he has a hobby, gos-
pel singing would get the
nod. He first became in-
terested in college when
the late Virgil O. Stamps
was organizing a quartet.
Joe played the piano for
the group. The quartet,
which was later taken
over by Virgil's brother,
is still a favorite with Me-
bane and he attends the
Stamps singing convention
with regularity each year.
He keeps his hand in at
the piano by playing for
his Sunday School class
and sometimes plays the
organ for services at his
church.
Be it music, cattle or
civic affairs, Joe Mebane
does his work well.
