IVwitt High School has the reputation *f
brum <* "football" school.
It lias a record of more suovossrs than tail-
lues over the yews on the toot halt field aiut
the fan* are fairly plentiful anil faithtu!, even
iturmji those few lean Years,
The coaching staff is equally serious about
football ami consistently lines up opponents
which provide jjotul competition ami interest*
nic matches.
That is all as it should be. There is no
reason to fiml fault with a program so well
planned an executed.
The tmible is, football lasts onl>" about
three months and two other major competitive
and several hvsser ones make up the i«v
matmter of tlu- school term.
We've just ended a basketball season
when IVwitt was a ctvntemler for the district
championship moat of the time hut the tack of
interest among fans was clearly pointed up by
ttie hawlftd of faithful who attended the
Kar.es. The lack of support may have been a
tactor in the team record since enthusiasm is
a contagious thing.
We're down to the track season now and
it too goes pretty much ignored. The lack of
support by tans may be a factor in the lack of
interest among the boys.
The squad this year is strong anil will be
a favorite lor the district championship but it
may have to contend without the help of some
of the boys who could be winners. A half a
dozen from last vear's team may not run at
all this year.
l.ick of fan support may be responsible
for the disappointing turnout of boys.
It isn't as easy to explain the poor turnout
of spectators for a team that has been a con-
sistent winner in the past.
IVwitt needs to forget its image as a "foot-
ball" school by recogniring the boys who take
part in other sports and building a new image
as a top school for all sports.

lishing SOt) new churches in
