^Passes Away
Tuesday morning, October 3,1939
Mrs. Helen Virginia Sanders Tower,
79, peacefully entered into the rest
of Paradise at her home in San
Augustine, Texas. Funeral services
were held Wednesday morning, at
9:30 from the San Augustine Metho
dist church, with the Rev. F. D.
Dawson, pastor, assisted by the
Rev. Jesse Lee and Dr. J. C. Oehler,
pastor of the local Presbyterian
church, officiating. The remains
were tenderly laid to rest beside
loved ones proceeding her in death.
Mrs. Tower is survived by her
husband, the Rev. C. A. Tower Sr.,
and six children, Mrs. H. L. Hunt,
Atlanta, Texas; Mrs. J. S. Har-
buck, Timpson, Texas; Mrs. Dan
Ferguson, Dallas; Mrs. Asa Rush-
ing, San Augustine; C. A. Tower,
Jr., of Dallas, Joe Z. Tower, pastor
of the First Methodist church, of
Beaumont. Also surviving are
twenty-six grand children and twen-
ty-six great grand-children. The
children were all present at her
bed side.
This tribute to Mother, by Temple
Bailey more nearly expresses my
idea of Mother than anything I can
write:
The young mother set her foot
on the path of life. "Is the way
long," she asked. And her guide
said, "Yes and the way is hard.
You will be an old woman before
you can reach the end of it, but
the end will be better than the be-
ginning." But the young mother
was happy, and could not believe
that anything could be better than I
these years. So she played withfl
children and gathered flowers with |
them along the way, and bathedj
with them in the clear streams and!

on and the weeks, and the months
and the years, and the mother grew
old and she was little and bent.
But her children were tall and
strong and walked with courage.
And when the way was hard, they
helped their mother; and when the
day was rough they lifted her for
she was light as a feather; and at
last they came to a hill and beyond
the hill they could see a shining
road with gates swung wide. And
the mother said, "Now I have
reached the end of my journey, and
now I know that the end is better
than the beginning, for my children
can walk alone and their children
after them."
And the children said, "You will
always walk with us, mother, even
after you have gone through the
gate." And they stood and watch-
ed her as she went on alone, and
the gate closed after her. And they
said "We can not see her but she
is with us still. A mother like ours
is more than a memory. She is a
living presence."
