Brady Lawyer In Race
For District Attorney
The following announcement of
his candidacy for district attorney of
the 35th Judicial District is made by
Evans J. Adkins of Brady:
I am 32 years ot age and hay liv-
ed in this Judicial District at Brady
McCulloch County Texas for the
last 30 lyears. where I attond nl the!
public schools and graduated from
the Brady .High Schools in 1910. I
then attended Howard Payuo College
at P.rownwood and graduated from
that institution in 1912 after which I
taught school for two years at Mil-
lersview in Concho County. I. then
attended the Law Department and
after being damitted to the bar re-
turned and went into the law oMle
of my father Joe A. Adkins wlire I
practiced law until I wa3 elected to
the oflice of County Judge uhich po-
sition I have held for three terms be-
ing returned each time by the voters
of McCulloch County by overwhelm-
ing majorities. I am a married man
ttnd have two children living whom
I hope to. educate into useful citi-
zens. I am a member of the Bapist
Church the American Le;io:r Odu
Fellows and Masonic Fraierniies ami
have afWays affiliated myst'lf with '
that element' of our citizenship that
stood for the development of our nat-
ural resources and the betterment' of.
rural conditions so that our produc-
ers might better obtain thorfo things
that- they are jusHy entitled to. In
refusing the earnest solicitations of
my friends and not nriuing for
County Judge again but instead an-
nouncing for the oliice of District
Attorney I do so for two r&a;ons:
First I desire to push forward and
increase my sphere of usefulness be-
lieving that a man should always
strive for something better until h
reaches the limit of his ability and
training. Second I feel that my edu-
cation and training have been stu-li
that I am -qualified for the position
which I seek- and I have an ambition
to accomplish as much-for myself
my family and my country 'ai is in
my power: If I am elected to th of-
fice of District Attorney I wHl ex-
ert my every effort to see that every
law is strictly enforced. Realizing
-that the greatest number of viola-
tions of the law today consist in the
illicit . manufacture saVe and hand-
ling of intoxicating liquor I shall
make an untiring effort to suppriss
these crimes' and their .attendsjn ev-
ils." I make this statement becan? rf
the fact that this question is para-
' mount throughout our entire natioi'
and the effectiveness of prohibition.

Easter Sunday Falls
on April 20 This Year
Comes at Late Date
Easter Sunday falls on April 20
this year which is said by those who
know and keep up Av'ith such things
to be very late. It is said the
following rule will always decide
the Sunday on which Easter is ti
fall: Sunday after the full moon fol-
lowing March 21 unless the fall
moon happens to fall on Sunday.
But this full moon is not the isiro-
nomical moon but the Mth day of a
lunar month of an ancient calendar.
Thus in trying to define the day one
enters an entirely new field.
It will be recalled that last year
Easter was celebrated on two differ-
ent Sundays April 1 and the lust
Sunday in March because of thej-
being a misunderstanding as to the
moon phases in the case. Perhaps it
Avas April 8 instead of the Jast Sun-
day in March.
