The ;meeting took on the tone of an
old-fashioned "experience meeting"
as the jnembers told of the good work
done by the club and the personal ben-
efits derived. Many entertaining anec-
dotes were related; such as the peti-
tion forthe Carnegie Library. Beau-
tifully worded tributes were made to
the founder the charter members and
especially to Mrs. I.. J. Rice a deceas-
ed charter member. A number of the
earliest "clubites" were jpresent" but
only one Mrs. A. H. Bell who was a
charter member is at present also a
member of the club.
Mrs. Chester Harrison .gave- an in-
teresting account of the gavel pre-
sented by Mr. Harrison to the club.
several years ago. "The gavel was
fashioned from a portion of a stanch-
ion taken from one of the massive ce
dar doprs of the Mission San Fran-
cisco a mission established in Texas
by the Franciscan Brotherhood in
16S9. Among the many interesting
papers .of the afternoon were the his
tory of the club setting forth the
ideals and the achievements of the
club and the toast to the president
The latter we quote in full:
