Ion's prospects after' peace is de-
clared in Europe" says the Fort
Worth Star-Telegram discussing
the cotton situation ami its de-
pendence upon the European war.
"The most unofficial confer-
' ence between the Kaiser and one
of his counsellors unpromising as
it seems means money to those
who have held cetton" con-
tinues the Star-Telegram. "More
definite moves toward the cessa-
tion of hostilities and the break-
ing of blockades means more mon-
ey to them. Belligerents and
neutrals alike are beginning to
ook forward eagerly to peace
aside from the humanitarian
yearning for it mean's money-sav-
ing to all the world and so-far
as cotton is concerned there are
other commodities thfit will nt be
nearly so in demand tonce there is
a way to deliver it. .
"An unfortunate .phase of the
cotton situation in its relation to
peace is that when t3ie staple re-
cently was advance 1 about 1. TO

cotton was actually In the hands
of the cotton growers. Most of
it ivas held by middlemen.
"Texas farmers are too busy
cultivating their ?arl.v cotton
stands to be crying over spilled
milk or gone cotton and what time
they have for figuring is being
devoted to their possible income
on the now crop. In this they
have a chance of peace prices and
a continuance of favorable weath-
vr will be a boon for them to be
sure. . -
