The. Ballinger Concert band has
its sights too high ror the directors
of the Fifth Annual Free Fail Fair
it was developed last night at a
meeting of the directors in the of-
fices of the Chamber of Commerce.
Accordingly all plans to interest
further the neighboring musicians
have been abanuoned..
ilex Gaither chairman of the com-
mittee on music reported that the
Ballinger band desires ?4Q0 to play
.during the fair. This is more than
the directors want to pay. Mr. Gaith-
er uecjareu mat no is aireauy jn cor-
respondence with other musical or-
ganizations of this part of the state
among the number being the Winters
band and that he hopes to have a
contract signed within the next two
weeks. In . the event a near-by band
cannot bp secured then the Brown-
wood boys will be urged to leave their
places of- business during the fair and
furnish music.
The contract for music will be
similar to the one last year that is
the band wilt play on a number of
corners and. in front of the various
exhibit halls. .t was suggested last
night that a bandstand be erected and
concerts be furnished morning aft-
ernoon and. night but the suggestion
was not acted Upon."
Pure Food Show in Tents
The pure food show is ono of the
most important matters before the
directors at present - Chairman Mur-
phey reported that no suitable build-
ing for such a;i -exhibit 'can be found
available in-the city. It was decided
to throw two tents together thus
giving ample space for booths. The
tonts will -be put up. under the. su-
pervision of an experienced boss
canvasmair and will be -expected to
protect all exhibits. Guards in all

-A director general of the Children's
Parade is one of the most perplexing
problems confronting the board. Mrs.
1). S. Camp who was originally ap-
pointed in this capacity has declined
to serve but the board is hot dis-
couraged in the least. A successor to
Mrs. Camp was expected to bo ap-
pointed today the ma.tter being in
the hands of committee" of ladies and
gentlemen interested in the success
of the fair.
Grounds Are Secure
Practically all grounds and build-
ings have already been secured ac-
cording to a report submitted by Mr.
Kirkpatrick. The midway will be lo-
cated on Center avenue while the ex-
hibits will be scattered lo vacant
buildings here and there about the
city. Large tents one coming from
Hamlin will be erected to give more
space to the various exhibits. A big
tent belonging to a show company is
now being stored in Brownwood and
an effort is being made to get the
use of it.
Ward McConhell chairman of the
agricultural committee reported that
the agricultural exhibit is progressing
nicely a number of individual farm
exhibits already being promised. The
community prize to the school . dis-
trict scoring the' highest number of
points. Is. expected to cause a large
number of exhibits to be - brought
here. -
Already one wagon yard -.has bev:
leased; for the livestock exhibits. )th-
er arrangements will be made as the
committee in- charge of this work

the features of the coming fair ac-
