games he has pitched here he. has

J. If. Joyiier Secures Contributions
for Family Which Has Suffered
a Eire Loss.
J. H. Joyner was in Brownwood
during the week working on what is
considered' a very praiseworthy cause.
A few days ago Mrs. F. E. Caffey
whose home is eight miles from
Brownwood in the Cedar Point neigh-
borhood suffered the loss by fire of
Jher barn and its contents consisting
.of quite a quantity of feed. Mrs. Caf.
j fey has been a widow for several years
' 8 a"d her chH(lren nav beer
j working heroically clearing their
jfarm land and cultivating it; in the
and! she and her chHdren have been
r
the
meantime there were vendor's lien
notes to be met. Arter a few years of
untiring work it seemed that they
were well on their way to success
when suddenly the barn containing a
large store of feed was destroyed by
fire.. 'This was indeed a blow. For
two years Mrs. Caffey was little more!
than an invalid and the loss of this I
property alter sue had regained her1
health and optimism was enough to
stagger anyone.
I . Mrs. Caffey is too heroic to ask any- ;
jone for help. But Mr. Joyner rea-j
llzed the' position of the family and '
knowing full weJl that the people of!
Brownwood could and would help I
I them he has spent a part of the j
i week here visiting his. friends and i
securing contributions for the assist-
ance of the unfortunate. Not accept.
ing more than L'o cents from anyone I
except the lumber men who have
given five dollars each Mr. Joyner
has received up to date about $40
and this sum will g0 far toward re.
lieving the immediate needs of Mrs.
Caffey and her family. This is not a
.case of charity or of downright want
but it has been an opportunity for
j many people to express their good
! will toward humanity and their sym-
j pathy for those who have suffered.
