Read John 4:6-15
"The hour is coming, and now
is, when the true worshipers will
worship the Father in spirit and
truth, for such the Father seeds
to worship him." (John 4:23. RSV.
When we were children on the
farm, we frequently spent Sunday
afternoons in the summer climb-
ing the hills. By the time we
thought we were high enough to
risk drinking water from a
stream, we scooped up a cool
drink with our hands. Because we
were thirsty, we did not miss the
usual containers from which to
drink.
Being thirsty and in the pres-
ence of pure water, did we stand
'noking at our hands, admiring
them, discussing size and shape
of palms, and length and taper
of fingers? No, we washed them
and drank of the fresh water.
In the story of the woman of
"^maria. we read that she later
left te water jar for the higher
mission. Can we today worship
the Father "in spirit and truth"
unless we leave our water jars
for the higher mission—worship of
God and fellowship with one an-
other?
PRAYER; Our Father, leach
us that true worship is not achiev-
ed merely by gazing at 6ur beau-
tiful church structures or admiring
the splendid equipment they con-
tain. Grant us contrite hearts and
humbleness of mind that we may
worship Thee in spirit and in truth:
through Christ our Lord.Amen,

to live bv...
It's quiet inside. Quiet with the peacr
of centuries, for this is God's House.
Within these walls, the worries hich
loomed so large outside become
less fearsome ... for the first time perhaps
you see them in their true perspective.
II litis alone were llic reward of Faith, it
would be enough. But there is more.
Faith is a source of strength, a reservoir
of power that helps you meet the needs
of every day. By worshiping with vour
family each week at your church or
synagogue, you're giving them a measure of
security no amount of monev could bt.iv.
The Faith to hope ... to grow ... to live by.
Give them a Faith to live by
