THURSDAY, MARCH 15
Read Psalm 116:1 - 9
Let the wicked forsake his way,
and the unrighteous man his
thoughts; and let him return un-
to the Lord, and he will have
mercy upon him; and to our God,
for he will abundantly pardon.
(Isaiah 55:7).
Anxious that a photograph of
her be good, a woman tried to
impress the photographer with
that, idea "You needn't worry,"
he said. "My picture will do you
justice." The woman answered,
"But I don't want justice. I want
mercy."
We all need mercy: for, as Paul
says, "All have sinned, and come
short of the glory of God." Simple
justice is a phrase we use, and
in jnanv areas it is good. But
justice for the sinner would mean
condemnation and punishment.
Even without Paul's assertion,
our hearts tell us we have sinned.
We are guilty of doing what we
should not have done. What may
be even worse, we are guilty of
leaving undone what we should
have done.
The law calls for justice, but
Christianity stresses mercy for all
who forsake their evil ways and
thoughts and return unto God with
sincere pleas for forgiveness.
PRAYER: We confess our sins,
0 God, and turn to Thee for
pardon. Have mercy upon us.
Give us power this day to resist
temptations to do evil. In Christ's
name we pray. Amen.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
"God be merciful to me a sin-
ner."

Father-Son Banquet To Feature
Pro-Football Star, Jack Spikes
"It takes a real man to be a
Christian!", savs Jack Spikes, for-
mer All American Fullback (TCU
1959) and current star fullback
of the Dallas Texans of the Ameri-
can Football Professional League.
Mr. Spikes will be a featured
speaker at the Father-Son Banquet
at the First Christian Church Tues-
day night March 20th at 7 p.m.
He will share his feelings of the
importance of Christian faith in
his life, as well as show a short
film which he says "the boys and
men always enjoy."
A frequent speaker at High
School Assemblies, Churches, j
Youth Groups, Retreats, etc., he j
is also active in his church, the j
First Methodist Church in Dallas, j
as president of the popular Youth
Adult Class, which he sometimes !
teaches.
Jack, who now lives in Dallas
with his wife and one year old
son, was born in Big Spring, Tex-
as, playing high school football in
Snyder. At T.C.U. he studied Sci-
ence and Business Administration
upon which he plans to base his
career after he has played his I
years in pro Football.
A delicious meal will be served
bv the ladies of the C.W.F., at the
Father-Son banquet and other fea-
'ures on the program will be group

TO THE PEOPLE OF WYLIE:
Government is necessary to the
existence of society. The sole func-
tion of a democratic government ^
is to direct the desires and inter- j
ests of the majority of its citi-
zens. A good city government can |
be no different. A councilman's ,
duty is to assert the desires of
the majority of the people, not:
just a few. As a candidate for
councilman, I, Bill A. Wallace, do
promise to fulfill that obligation.
My main objective ir. running
for councilman is to help achieve
growth and improvement for our
city. A city cannot maintain a
good solid growth on the shoulders
of a few. The burden must be
borne by all.
A larger payroll and more re-
venue for improvements of streets
and sewerage, among other things,
could be accomplished by attract-
ing more manufacturing firms.
Each taxpayer is entitled to
know how his tax dollar is being
spent. I propose that a financial
statement of the city's revenues
and expenditures be published
quarterly. Furthermore, each citi-
zen should be entitled to attend
council meetings and realize what
decisions are being achieved. 1
propose that this be made pos-
sible by an advance putol;cation
of such meetings.
1 do solemnly promise, if elect-
ed councilman, to uphold your trust
in me to the best d my know-
ledge and ability, by truly and
honestly representing the majori-
ty of the people.
Signed: Bill A. Wallace
