QUESTION: "Many preach-
ers teach that you are saved
by faith only, or by grace
only. Does the Church of
Christ teach this? If you do
not believe this, give us your
proof."
ANSWER: I find it rather
strange that our questioner
wants me to give proof for a
belief that some other
preachers have.
The apostle Peter stated
that "if any man speak, let
him speak as the oracles of
God." - 1 Peter 4:11. In other

words, anything I teach and
believe, I (not someone else)
must give book, chapter, and
verse for that particular
teaching.
In Churches of Christ, we
do not teach a doctrine that
has authority just because the
Church believes it.
We teach that which God
has left for us to teach and
live by; the New Testament
law.
Therefore, our question
would be more accurate if it
was "Does the Bible teach
that we are saved by faith
alone, or by grace alone?"
Where is the proof for such
teachings? Let those who
teach such give Bible
scriptures that will agree with
them.
God's word does not teach
that you are saved by faith
alone, or by grace alone.
The Bible very plainly
answers that which Churches
of Christ believe.
In reference to faith only,
notice: "Faith without works is
dead." - James 2:17, 20, 24.
"A man is not justified by faith
only." - James 2:24.
In reference to grace only,

We note that the apostle
Paul in the above verse
teaches that grace must be
coupled with faith for salva-
tion. This faith that must be
present is an obedient faith -
Matthew 7:21.
There are several distinct
actions that must be present
in order to be saved from past
sins.
These are some things
necessary to having our sins „ ,
forgiven by God: Hear truth - temple.

Therefore, on the day of
Pentecost as Acts 2:4 says,
they were (past tense) all
filled with the Holy Ghost. Ac-
cording to verse 14 of the
same chapter, Peter stood up
with the 11 apostles who at
this particular time were
speaking God's message in
other languages as the spirit
gave them utterance.
Most people believe that
these devout Jews were
amazed because the apostles
were speaking in known
languages. What these devout
Jews were really amazed at
was that fishermen and tax
collectors were preaching the
divine will and purpose of
God.
For the tradition was that
only those who were priests
after the order of Aaron had
the ability to speak God's
message to the people.
The devout Jews were
disturbed or angry, to say the
least. Besides that, these who
speak, are they not Gali-
leans? Every devout Jew
