Kay Cattarulla holds a BA from Cornell University and an MA from Columbia. She
is the founder of the Dallas literary series Arts & Letters Live and served as its producer
for twelve years. She also originated the nationally broadcast NPR series
"Selected Shorts" while working for New York's Symphony Space theater. She has
lived in Dallas since 1990.
Ellen Buie Niewyk is Curator of Bywaters Special Collections in the Hamon Arts
Library at SMU. She received her BFA from the University of North Texas in 1976
and her MFA from SMU in 1978. Ms. Niewyk has studied silversmithing with teachers
throughout the U.S. Her interest in ancient metalworking stems from her study of
Greek art at SMU and serving as the Eugene McDermott Graduate Intern at the
Dallas Museum of (Fine) Art during the Pompeii A.D. 79 exhibit in 1978 - 1979.
Sam Ratcliffe is Head of the Jerry Bywaters Special Collections in SMU's Hamon Arts
Library. An SMU alumnus, he received graduate degrees from the University of
Oklahoma and the University of Texas at Austin. In addition to his curatorial duties,
Ratcliffe has taught courses on the history ofTexas and the American West in SMU's
history department and MLA program. His book, Painting Texas History to 19oo, and other
writings have received awards from various state and national scholarly organizations.
Troy Sherrod grew up in Dallas, attending movies at the Wynnewood and other Oak
Cliff theaters. In addition to his long-standing research about Dallas theaters, he has
recently begun documenting organized crime in Dallas. He earned his Bachelor of
Humanities degree from SMU, where he worked for seven years in the Central
University Libraries. He currently works as a DISD elementary school writing teacher.
Larry Taylor is a Dallas native and a graduate of SMU, holding Bachelor and Masters
degrees in Electrical Engineering. He is an avid collector of books, photographs and
memorabilia pertaining to the history of Dallas. Taylor is currently working with a
team of like-minded Dallas citizens on a Texas Music Museum, intended to showcase
and celebrate our musical and cultural heritage. He is employed at Ericsson, where he
