"It really was a successful
event," Principal James Howard
said. "This was a great way to
meld our Hispanic, American
and Asian student cultures."
Luna Elementary School is a
Garland Independent District
facility located on Lochness
Street in the Firewheel district.
The school is attended by chil-
dren from Garland and Sachse.
Howard said the goal of Luna
is to provide a quality education
that develops lifelong learners
and responsible citizens. It has
an Exemplary ranking.
"Luna is dedicated to creat-
ing a collaborative relationship
between home, school and com-
munity where all students will
learn, grow and excel," Howard
said. "The staff at Luna pro-
vides a quality education that
emphasizes high expectations,
positive reinforcement, and stu-
dent achievement in order to
meet the unique needs of our
students."
Sachse resident Elenore
Wadley said she came to the
event to see her niece and
nephew.
"The evening was a huge
success and loads of fun for
everyone," Wadley said. "The
students showcased world cul-
tures. We loved the martial arts
exhibition."
Howard said he was pleased
that the event went so smoothly.
"A lot of people worked very
hard to make this night a suc-
cess," he said. "We had so many
individuals who worked tire-
lessly throughout the evening to
make sure that everything ran
smoothly."
Howard has been principal
for three years.
He graduated from Dallas
Baptist University with a
Bachelor of Science in psychol-
ogy and a Masters of Arts in
school counseling.
Howard was the school coun-
selor at Beaver Technology and
spent three years as the assistant
principal at Hillside Academy
before moving to Luna.
He lives in Garland with his
wife Amy and their two chil-
dren. They are members of
Gateway Church.
"One of my favorite places is
Disney World," Howard said.
"My wife and I have been to
Disney world every year since
we've been married."
He said his job gives him a
great deal of pleasure.
"Every morning, I wake up
energized by the fact that I get
to go to school and make a dif-
ference. I cannot tell you how
excited I am to have the oppor-
tunity to serve the students, par-
ents and staff at Luna
Elementary School."
