The Sachse Fire Depart-
ment was called to a vacant
residence in the 5500 block
of Summit Knoll Trace in re-
sponse to a structure fire call
about 2:02 a.m., Nov. I.
According to Capt. Robert
Knappage, when the fire de-
partment arrived on the scene
the roof was completely en-
gulfed in flames.
The house was destroyed,
fire officials said.
The Sachse Fire Department
received mutual aid from the
Wylie and Murphy fire depart-
ments. The fire was brought
under control by 3:37 a.m.
"All units were clear of the
incident by 5:23 a.m.," Knap-
page said. "The cause of the
fire was electrical failure in
nature."
Knappage cautioned every-
one to be aware of electrical
problems they may be experi-
encing.
"It is important to find elec-
trical problems before they
cause a fire or harm someone,"
he said. "Learn to be alert and
pay attention to any irregu-
lar electrical function in your
home."

commits an offense if they
are 'about or upon any public
place or in the premises of any
establishment within the city
during curfew hours,'" Veach
said.

ning of the program. Sachse resident
Dave Sanford also gave a presentation
regarding the history of the veterans'
memorial in front of city hall.
"Last year it occurred to me that
our city had no formal monument/me-

the service and sacrifices made by so
many throughout our history and cur-
rently in the service," Sanford said. "I
assembled a volunteer committee and
met with the city manager to request
approval to place a monument on the

Local veterinarians Dr. Jim Moebius
and Dr. Steve Pirkey are.now carrying
a new vaccine that can protect your dog
against the influenza virus. Texas is one
of the 38 states that have reported cases
of dogs with the flu.
Moebius and Pirkey said there is no
need to create a panic; however, they
agree that reported cases are getting
closer to the Metroplex and the public
should be aware that there is an avail-
able vaccine.
According to a study conducted by
the Centers of Disease Control the vi-
rus was first detected in 2004 in grey-
hounds. Scientists believe it jumped
species f rom horses to dogs and adapt-
ed to cause sickness and spread among
dogs.
