Notes

"Description of Photo: First United Methodist Church, Jacksonville. Built 1909. Education building at right rear added in 1940. Building was made of hand-cast cement blocks, had small basement. C. R. Kelly was builder and also built Twin Towers administration building at Alexander Collegiate Institute (now Lon Morris College) and First Presbyterian Church across alley from this one at same time and of same materials. Church had huge dome with ventilating openings in tower because of lack of air-conditioning then. The windows of the church, about three stories tall, are priceless today, were made in Italy of hand-cast glass. When hail storm damaged windows in 1947, true value was learned as insurance company had them repaired, are among most beautiful such window sin Texas today. In 1952, education building was enlarged with two-story addition to south (building faces north) and a chapel and this structure was brick veneered, dome was replaced with a steeple, columns and entry porch were replaced."
