IT AVE you ever tried serving
■* tried eggs on thin slices of
French toast? They're a real treat
of two old favorites.
Try a bit of mustard with canncd
green beans Boil beans until the
liquid is reduced to about Vi cup,
then add 2 teaspoons of prepared
mustard and a tablespoon of butter
to the liquid, bring to a boil and
serve with the beans
For a quick dessert, fill peach
halves ,with current jelly, top with

Broiled Duckling
(Serves 6—8)
1 4-5 pound duckling
M cup frozen orange juice con
centrate
V4 teaspoon salt
Vfe teaspoon garlic salt
hi teaspoon pepper

Stir a bit of onion, maple syrup,
mustard and celery seed into
canned baked beans before heating
to give them a special flavor.
A new version of apple pie uses
an unbaked crust, filled with sweet-
ened apple sauce flavored with
raisins, cinnamon am: nutmeg
Bake in a hot oven until the pastry
is crisp. Serve with wedges of
sharp cheese.

Knierim to
receive award
Canyon, Nov. 5 (Spl) — Jerry
Knierim of Claude is among 35
cadets to receive scholastic a-
chievement awards for the West
Texas State College Reserve Of-
ficers' Training Corps unit In
Canyon.
The awards are given to the
upper ten per cent of each mili-
tary science class for work done
last year, according to Lt. Col.
Edward L. Lindsey, professor of
military science and tactics.
Knierim, son of Mr. and Mrs.
John Knierim of Claude, is a
sophomore majoring in account-
ing.
Mr. and Mrs. H. B. McGowan
and son, L. Doyle McGowan, the
latter of Woodland Hills, Calif.,
were visiting relatives and friends
in Dallas and their old home in
Hill County, Hillsboro and Mexia.
Doyle left for Lo# Vegas Satur-
day by plane from Waco, to join
his wife and two sons for a few
days before returning home in
Woodland Hills.

Janis Lynn.
Band Concert for
hospital fund
The Groom School Band will
present a concert at the Groom
high school auditorium Thursday
night. Nov. 13', for the benefit of
the Groom Memorial Hospital
building fund.
The concert, under the direction
of Bennie Valentine, band in-
structor, will l:egin at 7:30 p.m.
Admission price will be $1.00
for adult and 50c for children.
C. L. Culver, member of the
Planning board for the proposed
Groom Memorial Hospital has
offered the fellewing report giv-
ing details of the planned hos-
pital in brief:
The 16-bed hospital will be built
at a. cost of $20,000,000.
The federal government will
make a grant of $100,000 if we
can raise $100 000.
To date, approximately $40,000
has been donated or pledged.
A loan of $30,000 on a 30-year
repayment term has been pro-
mised. We need to secure about
$30,000 more in cash and pledges
before the December meeting of
the State -Hospital Board which
will approve our application for
a federal grant of $100,000.
Things could be worse. Suppose
your errors were tabulated and
published every day, like those of
a ballplayer.
Dee .and Marie Aduddell cele-
brated their Tenth Birthday Sat-
urday, Nov. 1, 1058. The twins
are in the fourth grade and say
they .enjoy school.
Girls 4-H plan
finances
The Claude 4-H girls met Tues-
day, Oct. 28, at the Warner Com-
munity Home.
Doris called the meeting to or-
der. We discussed some ways to
raise money for the club, but we
didn't decide anything for sure,
yet.
Members present were Janie
Hood, Linda Benson, Mary Lou
Benson, Benese Chamberlain,
Janyth Burton, Dorothy Crowell,
Doris Robinson, Ann Crownover
and Jackie Ward.-
Leaders present were Mrs. O-
brecht, Mrs. Benson and Mrs.
Crownover. Our agent, Virginia
Hill, was out of town.
Mrs. Benson served refresh-
ments.
It's hard to believe that Ameri-
ca was founded to avoid taxation.

Mary Martha
Circle meets
The Mary Martha Circle of the
Methodist Woman's Society of
Christian Service presented the
fifth session of its study on
"Christian Concerns of North A-
merican Neighbors" directed by
Mrs. Cecil Hardaway. It was on
the area, "Mexico" (a maturing
land).
Everyone gathered at 10 a.m.
in Fellowship Hall of the church,
opening the session with a Mexi-
can Luncheon, it being prepared
by a committee of Mmes. Ter-
rill Christian, Cecil Hardaway, Le-
onard Ford and Carey Stephcu-
son,
The Mexican atmosphere was
felt upon entering the hall with
appropriate • decorations and so
many souvenirs, both large and
small ones.
The well prepared luncheon was
enjoyed by everyone, each one
feeling that she had spent the oc-
casion in Mexico.
Invocation was pronounced by
Rev. Ceeil Hardaway.
. Following the luncheon, our
study director, Mrs. Cecil Hard-
away, opsned this worship period
with Circle singing a hymn, with
Mrs. J. c. Yeaman as pianist.
Mrs. Carey Stephenson gave an
approprate story "Mexicans Study
English on TV."
Mrs. Frank Clark presented the
chapter on "Mexico" from the
text.
Mrs. Terrill Christian gave a
fine story from the supplemen-
tary text, "The Shadows they
Cast."
The director, Mrs. Cecil Hard-
away then closed the session
with a concern "The Indian Pro-
blem."

Civil Defense
program tonite
The Future Homemakers Club
of Claude High School will be
host to a Civil Defense program
tonight ^Thursday) at 7:30 p.m
in the school auditorium.
Mr. Roseberry from the Am-
arillo Department of Civil De-
fense, will narrate the program.
Those who have been contacted
to be on this program are Judge
Carl Wood, Raymond Clayton, Ja-
net Moore, Jewell Chauveaux,
Marvn Morgan and others to be
selected.
Everyone n the community is
urged to attend and hear this
very important discussion.
The man who thought nothing
of walking ten miles a day now
has a grandson who doesn't think
so much of it either.
