YELLOW FEVER AT MEMPHIS
We regret to learn that yellow fever is on the increase at Memphis.
The Governor has issued a quarantine proclamation, requiring a health
officer to be appointed at each of the following places: Brazos Santiago,
Corpus Christi pass, Aransas pass, Pass Cavallo, mouth Bernard and San Luis
pass, on island or point of land below Lynchburg, in Harris County, by Houston
and Sabine pass. The Governor declares quarantine against Memphis and other
places to which the fever may spread, and requires health officers at the following
places, immediately on the Sabine River, to be appointed by the towns
of Orange; State of the Texas and Pacific Railroad of Marshall; at
Texarkana, s___ T of Red River; (NOTE: the rest of this article is torn
away. However, starting with this issue and continuing until the Nov.8, 1879
issue, every paper has detailed Yellow Fever reports from Memphis, New Orleans,
Little Rock and other cities on the railway lines also serving Longview.)

- The L. & S.V. Railway is doing a good business. The earnings of the
road this week will foot up over one thousand dollars, above runningexpenses.
Who now says the L. & S.V, is not a success. We thinke'we are safe in predicting
that Col, Tom BOWERS will be able to visit Longview by rail before September.-17
