decline in Texas
Traffic deaths in Texas
were down nine per cent
through mid-July this year
compared to the same peri-
od last year.
The national traffic toll
decreased one per cent.
Texas highway accidents
claimed 1,049 lives, com-
pared to 1,152 last year for
the period ending in mid-
July.
New insurance rates bas-
ed on driving records are
being cited as a cause of
the improvement.
Dalton wins
youth banner
Dalton won the attendance
banner at the July meeting
of the Salem Missionary Bap-
tist Youth Fellowship held at
the Hopewell Church.
There were 27 present from
the Dalton Baptist Church
and the total attendance at
the meeting was 134.
A special offering was tak-
en at the meeting for Bro.
Dowden's preaching broad-
cast on radio.
The next meeting will be
Aug. 15 at the Union Hill
Baptist Church.

Sunday morning was from
Genesis 24:1. His subject was
"The Bible is Better Than
Man". His text Sunday night
was Psalms 119:65-72 and the
subject was "A Bride for Isa-
ac."
Miss Janie Heath and Carl
Kingston were honored with
a shower in the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Herbert Cromer.
They will be married Aug. 6.
Co-hostesses were Mrs. B> T.
Baugh, Mrs. Deryl May, "Mrs.
Don Shultz, Mrs. J. W. Hicks,
Mrs. Gene Dodson and Mrs.
Vernon May. Forty-three were
present. Those from out of
the community attended were
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur King-
ston of Texarkana, and Mr.
and Mrs. Heath of the Argo
community. The couple re-
ceived many nice and useful
gifts.

girl in a dance-twirl class at
Kilgore Junior College last

Miss Virginia Shirey, the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. El-
lis Shirey of Naples, received
a medal as the outstanding
student in the class of about
50 girls.
The award was made as a
surprise at the final show at
2 p.m. Friday.

olyn Kennedy, Mary Larke
Pewitt, Sandra Nance, Ann
