Mr. W. J. Summers,
My Dear Friend
Yours to hand and glad to hear from you. thos few lines leaves
me wel 1 as common, the rest al 1 we 1 as ever. I have no news to
r i te of in trest. crops is looking very well. corn is dronded
out in some wet p1 ases. so is cotton tho dos very well for the
work It has had for folks could not work for the rain tho we have
had a few days of pretty weather this week. Pa is up with his
crop, what his renters works is not in Such good f i x. some on
the creeks has not finished planting cotton yet & only got done
planting corn Last week. that is on Sampson and Striker Creeks.
We 1 Jo I was up at Concord at meeting third Sabbath in May,
first time in 12 or thirteen years. Your Uncle Lewis preached,
first time I ever heard him and never heard him much then for he
was talking when I got their and it was so hot in the hous I
could not stay in. I guess he thought I card nothing bout
hearing him the I as soon to heare him as Enney tho I shal not
stay in when It is warm to heare none of them. I no my feelings
better than enne y one else. Jim and Bill Johnston wanted me to
go home with them. So did Jim McMartin and sevrel others tho I
could not for I had old man Ri chardsons Girl in the hack wi th me
and she made me promis to come back to their please be fore we
started. I had the old mans hack and girl so I had to come back
w i th her. Lizzie Carroll1 was wi th us. the old man has fine
Looking girl . I guess you saw her when you was up here and we
amed to go to Singing after dinner tho we had the bi gi st rain and
hail we have Since the flood of '84, hir t Little cotton some and
washed up the land bad.
I was out to the Babtist church twice this year once to Singing
and once to meet i ng. I went in the hack wi th Carrol s fol k out
there. John Murphy married Lucy Martin the Sunday I went to
Concord. he stold her. Bob and Alf is cussing bout it. John
amed to come here tho Pa was gon from home and he went to Lewis
Holcomb and he fi xed them up.
Well , Jo I have still bin hunting and K ill the squirrels tho
the red bugs is so bad I think I shall stop and my shot and
powder is out. My Cousin has gon home, so I have to go alone.
come up and see us when you can. I would love to go and see
you tho I have not got eny way to go and no one to go with me If
I did have since Wi l has gon. So I wi ll close, write me soon
fai 1 not. give my Love the families and Friends. I am as Ever- 10 -
