This week the entire city and iti
community is in a state of mourn-
ing over the sad passing of our
beloved David Leroy Marshall,
professor in the Victoria Hi 4:hool
and very activt in the upbuilding
of the community. Prof. Marshall
died in the Detar hospital Sunday
evening after an operation. He
took to bed Friday, teaching school
until Thursday. Funeral services
were held Tuesday morning and the
remains taken to Jackson County.
He is survived by a widow, mother
and father and other relatives.
Church at Palestine Sunday was
light. Regular S. S. and 11 o'clock
services were held. Mesdames M. F.
Simpson and E. J. Lethridge held
a Christmas party Sunday night
with a fair attendance. The church
| being sad. The B. T. S. under
presidents E. M. Timmons and De-
oris White held a "free for si"
luncheon at the parsonage in the
past week. Mr. T. W. Swanson
says Webster's chapel held its
usual good S. S. with Supt. Mrs.
D. N. Swan carrying out the serv-
ices. The pastor preached a won-
derful sermon. A nice Resurrection
program commemorating the birth
of Christ was held Sunday night.
Early morning services were held.
Mt. Salem's S. S. opened on time.
Pastor McBeth reviewed the lesson.
At 3:30 prayer service was held
after which the pastor preached a
wonderful sermon. Services were
held early Christmas morning.
St. Peters Baptist church held
good services Sunday. Dinner was
served on the lawn. A spirited cove-
nant meting was held at 3:80.
Mr. Henry Crawley was unable
to walk Sunday and Monday. His
condition is the same at present.
Bethlehem Baptist held nice
Sunday school service. B. T. S. at
0 p. m. was wonderful. The Pageant
Sunday night was very impressive.
Mrs. Viola Johnson had as her
j guest, her son, Mr. Earnest Wyatt.
Mt. Calvary held a good S. S. and
i regular services all day.
Mt. Olive has no report this week.
Miss Ida Lee Poindexter, rela-
tive of Mrs. Catherine Cherry,
raised *175.00 in a popularity con-
test .in Kingsville.
