Club
Mi-Dear Club was entertained
last Saturday evening by Miss Cora
L. Sampson at her home. After
the usual business meeting the club
members joined the guests for an
evening of enjoyment at bridge.

lev, Henry Gale, Esdale Whittaker,
and Miss Euretta K. Fairchild
were the guests. Mesdamcs
Carley and Cook won the guest

prizes.
At the close of the bridge games,
the hostess served a cold turkey
salad on lettuce, saltines, pine-
apple circles and a wine jelly. Pit-
ted dates and mint julep were en-
joyed throughout the games.
Miss Lela Houston will be hos-
tess to the club on November 21.

ness was discussed by the members,
meeting adjourned.
Mr. J. B. Steward of Hartford,
Conn., was guest of the club, he
compared to the club membera the
conditions between the South and
those of the North, he showed the
numbers of benefits that we enjoy
here in the Southland. The mem-
bers were glad to have had Mr.
Steward present. The club will be
entertained by Mr. Alexander Dale,
Jr., next meeting.

Party
Little Miss Ella Mae Hays en-
tertained Saturday evening. Oc-
tober 31, in the home of her par-
ent*. Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Hays.
421 Spruce street. They enjoyed
playing games. Little Miss Zar-
rah Mae Thomas won a prize by
pinning the shoe on Cinderella.
Mrs. Hays served a delicious ice
course to the guests of her daugh-

The Girl Reserves began their
fiftieth anniversary celebration
with a birthday partv at the Y.
W. C. A. The Y. W. C. A„ which
is beautiful in itself, was more
elaborately decorated by Mrs.
Charles Bellinger.
In one of the recreation rooms
was a beautiful cake, a huge birth-
day cake, embellished with the G.
R. emblem. The cake was made
by the efficient Bouglass High Do-
mestic Science teacher. Miss Bettye
Browne, and High School G. R.
The program consisted of games,
i the historical pageant, and a de-
licious repast. Mesdames Mamye'
Brewer and Charles Bellinger act-
ed as hostesses for the evening.
The Vesper service Sunday at
Bethel A. M. E. Church was very |
largely attended. Reverend C. H.
Stepteau preached a very interest-
ing sermon.
The G. R.'s have for their
theme for the year "Building To-
morrow's World." Mrs. Mattie
DuBois Butler, gave an interest-
• ing talk on The Girl Reserve theme.

New Club
On Sunday. November 8, a
Kroup of young men met at the
home of Mr. William Barr and or-
ganized a club. This club is not
for social position entirely, but
rather for the advancement of the
fundamental activities of the Negro
Youth. The following officers were
elected: Reuben McKinney, presi-
dent; Clarance Waddle?, vice pres-
ident; Jack William Evans, secre-
tary; Lloyd Mitchell, treasurer;
William Killou*h, s e r g e ant-at-
arms. Members: Joe Aycock, Wil-
liam Barr, Jones Hall, George Hol-
land, Murphy Martin Jesse Thomas
and Theodore Walker. After a
lengthy business meeting the host

Social Club
Mrs. J. M. Buckanan was the
charming hostess to the Wisteria
Social Club Thursday evening in
her home on 815 N. San Jacinto
Street. After a brief business ses-

club prize. Mrs. M. L. Rogers, con-
solation. A delicious dinner was
