there have never been more than
2000 books in the library at one
time, changes are made each
month in the collection. Any book
in the Harris County Library col-
lection of 47,000 books is available
on request.
The West University Branch
Library is open from 8 a. m. until
noon, Mondays, Wednesdays and
Fridays, and Mrs. Sanders urges
all residents to take advantage of
the library's facilities.

Small today . . .
maybe big tomorrow.
Young now . . .
but maybe a future leader.
Above all he's full of fire, eagerness . . . and
he has plenty of ability. We encourage small

to use our facilities in financing business

quartet. Music, both from the sing-
ing and the listening-to-good-music
angle, is his chief hobby, closely
seconded by reading.
Football Broadcasts
Enthusiastic, too, about football
is Abe, but this isn't only from a
pastime standpoint. As assistant
advertising manager for the Hum-
ble Oil Company, he is busy these
days getting ready for the pigskin
season and for the Humble football
broadcasts that have become tradi-
tional throughout the territory cov-
ered by the Southwestern Confer-
ence. Incidentally, he is in charge
of all of the advertising for the
company and is responsible for the
five Humble publications.
Abe was born in Alexandria,
Louisiana, on June 2, 1003. He
joined the Humble organization 22
years ago and served in various
capacities in the sales department
in Louisiana and West Texas until
he moved to Houston in 1935. It
didn't take him long to "discover"
the Southwestern section, and two
months after his arrival in Hous-
ton he moved to 3104 Amherst
where the family still lives. He and
his wife, Cleo, have two sons, Jim-
my Penny, S 1/c, 18, in boot camp
at San Diego, and Dicky, 10.
Many Activities
Listing all of the patriotic, civic
and professional activities that Abe
participates in would be well-nigh
impossible, as one just "runs out
of fingers." One of the newest jobs
he has taken over is that of pub-
licity chairman for the Harris
County Veterans Service Commit-
tee. He has served on various bond,
War Chest and Red Cross drives
and is a member of the board of
directors of the War Advertising
Committee of Harris County. He
Mason and is vice chairman of
the publicity committee for the
Houston Chamber of Commerce. He
is an officer of the Gulf Coast
Press Association and an active
member of the Texas Press Associ-
ation. He belongs to the Houston
Central Lions Club, the Houston
Advertising Association and was
the first president of the Industrial
Advertising Association.
Considering the strenuous life
his business and public activities
impose on him it's little wonder that
at the close of the day the popular
\be prefers the soothing strains of
good music or a quiet hour with a
favorite author to a more active
hobby.

Village Civic Club
Meets Tonight For
Talk On Restrictions
Members of the Village Civic
Club will meet at 8 o'clock tonight
in the Scout House, Greenbriar and
Addison, to hear Abe Gollub of
2331 Wordsworth discuss building
restrictions in Carolina Place and
Brantwood. This is another of the
series of talks Mr. Gollub is mak-
ing to explain to home owners the
restrictions in various additions
from a legal standpoint. He is an
attorney.
Roland F. Hodder of 2532 Sheri-
dan, president, stated that 23 sig-
natures of property owners had
been obtained for the petition ask-
ing that Kirby Drive be topped
and that others had promised to
sign. There are approximately 40
property owners in the blocks to
be topped from Bellaire Boulevard
to University, he said, and express-
ed the opinion that the balance
would be obtained shortly.
