of the season. The group met in
the Community House and com-
pleted their study of Romans, their
topic subject.
Following the morning session,
Mrs. C. K. Money, member of the
class, entertained with a covered
dish luncheon in her home. Shasta
daisies were arranged in the center
of the table and throughout the
home.
A surprise birthday gift was pre-
sented Mrs. Grace Woodward, and
the hostess was given a memento

cluded in the group were Frank
Smith, pastor of the Pierce and
Baldwin Church of Christ; Basil C.

You've all heard about the shoe-
maker's children having no shoes,
but how about the optometrist who
has his picture made without
glasses ? Seriously, though, this is
Dr. Robert E. Nesmith, and we hap-
pen to know that the photograph
was made before he started wear-
ing "specs" not too long ago.
You can't talk with "Doc" long
without hearing about "his boys."
As vice president of the Houston
Optimist Club in charge of the Boys'
Work Program, Dr. Nesmith spends
a great deal of time carrying out
the Optimists' slogan, "A Friend
to the Boys," and in furthering the
club's project of developing the
youth of the ciy into valuable citi-
zens.
In our own section, Dr. Nesmith
is president of the Southgate Civic
Club and vitally interested in any
development for the betterment of
the area. For a number of years
he has been active in local and state
optometric circles.
Born in Dallas and educated in
the public schools there, Dr. Ne-
smith attended the Texas College
of Optometry and the Northern Il-
linois College of Optometry. The
family moved to Houston in 1930
and became residents of the South-
western section when they pur-
chased their home at 2250 Gold-
smith five years ago.
The Nesmiths (her name is
Leota) have three children. T/Sgt.
Warren A. Nesmith, 27, is stationed
on Luzon and has been overseas 34
months. Warren's wife lives in
Dallas with their two-and-a-half -
year-old son, Robert Michael. The
other son is S 1/c Norvin D. Ne-
smith, 20, with the Coast Guard in
the Pacific. Still at home is 12-
year-old Amelia Ann.
Busy as he is with his profes-
sional and civic jobs, Dr. Nesmith
takes time out occasionally to in-
dulge in his hobbies of hunting,
fishing and bowling.
