A tireless set of jaws and proper blowing procedure Saturday
stood the above youngsters in good stead as they blew themselves
to the Village Theatre Bubble Gum Contest championship. Com-
paring results are the champs, Carolyn Schill of 6617 Buffalo
Speedway and Bill Curry of 3012 Duke. The local winners will par-
ticipate in a Houstonwide contest to be held at the Metropolitan
Theatre. After seeing an example of their ability, it is fairly well
conceded that they will be very much in the running for the city
championship.
Public Opinion Forces Another Change In
Bus Route By West University Council
Criticism of the recently initiated
shuttle bus in West University
Place has brought about another
revision in service, it was an-
nounced by the city council at last
Monday night's meeting. News
that the shuttle will be discon-
tinued Monday will be received
joyfully by many residents of the
city but by others it will probably
come as a disappointment. By

mutual agreement of the council,

Houston Transit Co. the route of
the Auden bus is being changed
to continue it out Sunset Boule-
vard and Old Richmond Road to
the Beatty light plant.
While this is a boon to residents
north of Old Richmond Road, those
living in the northwest section for-
merly served by the Auden line
and more recently by the shuttle
now are faced with a several block
walk to the nearest line.
Another announcement made by
Mayor Ralph B. Lee at this week's
meeting was the appointment of
the Board of Equalization. Chair-
man is Carl S. Smith of 3833 Rice
Boulevard and the other two mem-
bers are W. K. Clark of 4027 Mar-
lowe and M. J. Gibson of 3009
Pittsburg. Both Mr. Smith and
Mr. Clark served last year and are
thoroughly familiar with the re-
sponsibilities of the work. The
committee will be faced with set-
ting the assessments of all new
buildings, settling disputes on as-
sessments and later, according to
the mayor, making decisions on in-
creasing the assessed Valuations
when the budget is worked out to
determine the increased needs of
the city.
