Thanks A Million
To those civic-minded organizations, firms and individuals
whose cooperation has made possible the launching of this
newspaper, the Southwestern Times gives sincere thanks.
Without their friendly support, such an enterprise would
have been impossible.
We acknowledge gratefully the cooperation of the city offi-
cials of West University Place, Bellaire and Southside Place.
While the entire expense of stationery, clerical help and post-
age in connection with the letters announcing this publication
was borne by the Southwestern Times, the assistance and
moral support of these civic leaders has been invaluable.
Wartime paper shortages, together with overburdened
printing facilities, necessitated the omission of numerous
articles and ads planned for this issue. To those groups, indi-
viduals and advertisers who lack representation, we can only
extend our apologies and our hopes that future issues will
enable us to devote space to all activities that warrant it.
While the cooperation received has been gratifying, and at
times almost overwhelming, it has not been surprising. For
the southwestern section of Houston has the reputation of
being a community that specializes in cooperation. Its resi-
dents have shown time after time that they can work together
efficiently and effectively for any project they believe in.
The Southwestern Times is proud to take its place as a part
of this community.

Most light bulbs have a life of
from 1,000 to 3,000 hours. You will
save bulbs and electricity by turn-
ing them off when not needed. Use
good quality bulbs of the right
for your needs. A 100-watt bulb
gives more light, costs less to buy
and less to operate than two 60-
watt, bulbs. Buy lights with the
proper voltage rating for your
current.
With the use of a hand spray
or even the garden hose, starched
clothes may be sprinkled right
