Senior league all-stars win 2 of 3 games
The Albany All-Star Senior
League team has won two of their
first three games at the area all-
star tournament that started last
week in Abilene.
The Albany team, which is
made up of members from the Al-
bany Hawks and the Albany A's,
lost their first game of the series
4-3 in the last inning to the Abi-
lene Senior League team on Wed-
nesday, July 12.
Steve Hudman was the leading
hitter for Albany with two hits,
one run and one RBI. Marcus Ed-
gar had two hits and one RBI.
Bobby Smith and Dan Key each
had a hit and scored one run, and
Smith drove home an RBI.
Jeff Lenamon pitched all seven
innings for the team, giving up
four runs on six hits and three
walks. He struck out 10 batters at
the plate.
"All the boys played an out-
standing game," said Melvin Hud-
man. "Jeff and the Abilene pitch-
er were in a real duel. We lost the
game in the bottom of the seventh
on a fluke."
Albany edged out the Big Coun-
try East All-Stars 3-2 in the sec-
ond game played Friday, July 14.
Scoring runs for the local team
were Steve Hudman with two and
Bobby Smith with one. Hudman
also had one hit and one RBI, and
Smith had a hit.
Randy Holson cracked two hits
for Albany and one RBI, and Mar-
cus Edgar had one hit and one
RBI.
Clint Chapman pitched the first
3Vi innings of the bout, giving up
two runs on three hits and two
walks. He had seven strikeouts.
Randy Holson pitched the re-
mainder of the game, allowing
only one hit and two walks. He
had six strikeouts.
"We did not play as well as we
did against Abilene, but Clint and
Randy pitched well enough to
keep us close," said Hudman.
"Steve hit a home run in the top
of the seventh to put us h« nd by
one run."
Albany played again on Mon-
day, July 17, taking a 14-8 win
over the Coleman All-Stars.
Holson batted five hits, scored
five runs and had three RBIs.
Hudman followed closely with
four hits, four runs and three
RBIs.
Smith also had four hits, one
run and three RBIs.
Scoring one run each for Al-
bany were Dan Key, Clint Chap-
man, Jeff Lenamon, and Matthew
Hise.
Lenamon pitched all seven inn-
ings, giving up eight runs on 11
hits and four walks. He struck out
eight at the plate.
"Defensively we did not play
too well," said Hudman. "Randy
and Bobby both hit big home runs
which put us ahead, and Randy
had two home runs and Bobby hit
one. Our bats really came alive."
The Albany All-Stars were also
scheduled to play Abilene All-
Stars again on Wednesday at 6:00
p.m. at Redbud Park. Game
results were not available at
press time.
Girls to compete in tournament
Three softball teams from
Albany will participate in the
United Girls Softball Association
Class A Championship Tourna-
ment, scheduled for Thursday
through Saturday, July 20-22, in
Abilene.
Divisions I, II and III from
Albany will be represented, and
all games will be played at Red
bud Park.

will play their first game at 9:15
a.m. Thursday versus Brownfield.
The next game is scheduled for
4:15 p.m. with Jal, New Mexico.
The girls will wind up the day

team will play Bangs at 2:30 p.m.

Little league all-stars lose
Albany's Little League All-
Stars lost both rounds of play last
week in the Area III AllrStar
Tournament in Cisco.
On Tuesday, July 11, the boys
lost 14-4 to a tough Baird team, ac-
cording to Billy Holson, team
manager.
"They just scored on us, and we
made some errors." he said.
"Lance Cauble pitched a pretty
decent game."
On Thursday, Clyde soundly de-
feated Albany 19-6. Pitching for
the local team were Leslie Bow-
man and Kyle Bartee.
"We gave up 13 runs in one inn-
ing. That really hurt us," said
Holson. "They also had five home
runs. We played decent in the
field, but our hitting really hurt
us."
Holson expressed his thanks to
everyone for supporting the Lit-
tle League program throughout
the season.
All coaches of Little League
and Tee-ball are reminded to turn
in their equipment as soon as pos-
sible.

Brownfield. At 2:30 p.m., the girls

will conclude play at 9:30 p.m.
with Kermit.
On Friday, the team will play
Bangs at 7:45 p.m.
Other Division I teams in the
tournament include Brecken-
ridge, Coahoma, Lovington, Col-
orado City, Hawley and Brown-
field.
Charlotte Taggart explained
that teams winning the most
games on Thursday and Friday
will advance to the finals on
Saturday.
A Division IV team will not be
attending the tournament due to
a lack of players.
Montgomery and Boyett ex-
plained that their Division II All-
Star team played two scrimmages
last week with Breckenridge and
Hawley.
On Friday, the girls hosted
Breckenridge and lost 26-7. "The
girls were really out of it that
night," said the coach.
On Saturday, the team traveled
to Hawley. Although they lost
18 14, the coaches said that the
girls played much better.
The coaches mentioned that
they appreciated all the help the
parents have given during the
season. "We want to thank every
one that has helped support this
organization."
