and these books are ready to be sold for $10.83 plus $3.00 postage. Applications 4701 and up
will be held for later publication. These index books as well as microfiche are available for sale
and each board member is encouraged to take books to sell to the societies in their areas. The
money from these sales is to be sent to anna Elliott. boris Cozart reports that Vol. 1 of these
applications has been typed and that the book has a pre-publication price of $55.00. The book is
expected to be ready by October. It was reported that the Barker Center will be the
repository for the original certificates and that 30 folders had been delivered to them. The
file cabinets are to go to banna Elliott.
(5) Pioneer and Gone to Texas Certificates.
boris Cozart reported that 318 Gone to Texas certificates (direct descendants of arrivals to
Texas prior to 1883) and 78 West Texas Pioneers (direct descendants of arrivals prior to 1901)
have been received. boris states that she has put the data off these applications in the
computer. She also states that the State Library does not want the original certificates and
that the Barker Center will be contacted as to the possibility of placing them there with the
First Family applications. The District Representatives were asked to help with the distribution
of the publications in their area and to serve as a resource person for this project. Yvonne
Perkins is to provide the new representatives with the necessary forms.
(6) STIRPES Microfiche.
boris reports that the STIRPES reproduced on microfiche is available now and that the price is
$20.00 plus shipping. An order form is in the STIRPES.
(7) Archival Microfiche & Partner Society Grants.
boris Cozart distributed the Archival Grant Application forms to members of the Board and
requested that we contact the Societies in our areas and encourage participation in this
program. This program helps societies fund projects that microfilm their publications,
quarterlies or county records. She stated that two grants had been approved as of this time,
$100 to the Red River Society and $100 to the Victoria Society. The grant requires a copy of
the bill and a copy of the microfiche be submitted. boris offered to answer questions and give
additional help to anyone interested in this project.
A list of businesses that provide microfilming services and their prices was given to the Board.
Data Plex was mentioned as the best in Austin and their charge was $28.00 per 1000 sheets.
(8) Writing Awards.
Richard Hooverson reviewed the requirements for books to be submitted for review and the
deadlines for submission. It was emphasized that submission for review in STIRPES was not the
same as submission for the Writing Awards contests.
(9) Historical Records Preservation.
Richard Hooverson reported on attendance at the Texas schoolteachers (Social Studies) and a
presentation was made as to their roles. Also reported was attendance at the Texas Vital
Statistics Conference. This was a meeting of county clerks and other persons involved in public
records. Also reviewed was the Texas Historical Records Advisory Board which is a sponsored
by the Texas Archives. This board is involved in writing federal grants for various projects,
which are of interest to genealogists.
(10) Web Page.
Paula Parks had no report. Yvonne Perkins reported that Paula would remain as web site
administrator.75
