PRESIDENT'S PAGE
Your state society continues to grow as it offers more opportunities for researchers to learn
about their Texas ancestors. The new electronic library bulletin board system has stirred a lot of
interest from genealogists all over the United States and is resulting in new memberships almost
daily. Don't be discouraged if you get a busy signal; keep trying and you will eventually get through.
Mark your calendars now for our state conference November 6-7 in Austin at the Doubletree
Hotel. We will again offer the research trips on Friday morning with the conference to open at noon.
A series of one-hour mini-sessions will be offered on Friday afternoon with more than a dozen topics
to choose from. The annual awards banquet will recognize our winners in the writing categories and
society project competition. Jo White Linn from North Carolina will be our featured speaker for the
seminar on Saturday. Her lectures about the "Great Philadelphia Road" will provide information for
tracing your ancestors who may have been scattered from Pennsylvania down through the Carolinas
and Virginia and most southern states. This seminar will be much more than a lesson in migration
patterns and you don't want to miss it.
TSGS seminar teams are being formed to provide workshops in your area if your local
society needs the expertise of some quality Texas speakers. Any speaker who is interested in
participating can register with the TSGS Speaker's Bureau and any society who needs information
about scheduling individual speakers or a seminar team can contact TSGS for more information.
We extend our sincere sympathy to the family of Leroy Barfield. Leroy passed away last
month after a short illness. He has been a member of the TSGS Board of Directors for three years,
serving the Wichita Falls district and coordinating the door prizes and handout literature for our state
conference. We will miss him.
Have you volunteered to help someone with their genealogy puzzle lately? Sometimes
working on another's project gives you a fresh approach to your own. Best wishes for your success.
Sincerely,
Marynell Bryant
