Sorority's annual Fashionetta
luncheon raises over $75,000
Jo Ann Collins, with a little help
from her sponsor, Cophra Ann Rec-
tor, raised more than 515,000 con-
test to win the 1992 Fashionetta
crown.
Collins; was crowed Mrs.
Fashionetta 1992 before a capacity
crowd at the Marriot Rivercenter
Hotel Saturday.
The sorors of the local Alpha Tau
Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Al-
pha sorority raised over 575,000
Saturday with their annual
Fashionetta luncheon at the Marriott
Rivercenter hotel.
Collins won the Fashionetta crown
in a competition with five other
contestants.
Guests were carried away by the .
theme, "Island Magic: A Caribbean
Experience" from the time they en-
tered the tropically decorated room
at the Marriott Rivercenter through
the Fashion Show presented by Saks
5th Avenue.
The crowd of over 1000, mostly
women, were also dressed for the
occasion with many sporting bright
colors, floral prints, and lightweight
fabrics reminescent of the Caribbean.
The gala affair culminated with the
sorority recognizing its scholarship
winners, some of whom are ap-
proaching their fourth year as AKA
scholarship winners.
Proceeds raised from Fashionetta
will assist a number of programs in
the community sponsored by the
sorority.
Local president Geraldine
Richardson said that the money will
go to programs assisting the elderly
and the youth in the community.
The Smith girls join the city in saying hats off to AKA for another successful Fashionetta.
