NEXT TUESDAY, Nov. 7, is f.ner.l election
day throughout tbo nation. Moat state* are
haviag real two party elections, but Texas,
the Democrats are in big majority, will
little interest.
We sometimes think that rf the Republicans
could gain enough strength to elect a few state
) officers, it might be good for Texas politics.
) Shackelford county people are urged to go
to the polls next Tuesday and vote.
FROM THE MAIL BAG
Dear John:
I've just n*ad your predictions for th<> last weok
ne you were missing four for four. In the same
column you were "ahem-ini?" for hitting them all
the weA bofore.
John, as one predictor to another, let me say that
Bitter experience has taught me it just don't pay
to be alive some week-ends.
A. C. Greene, Abilene Reporter-News.
JUST WHEN we gat to thinking nobody
reads this column, something like the above
happens. Greene was just ono of several
dosen who called our attention to tho 100 per-
cent miss in our predictions; so wo know we
have a few readers.
We are still near perfect We hit them 100
percent ... or miss 'em 100 percent.
Last week we followed A. C.'s column in pre-
dicting Haskell would boat Anson. Then wo
fallowed other predictors in the AAM-Bayior
aad Mississippi-TCU games. The Texas>Rice
bad guess was our own. We though we'd take
a loag chance on an upset.

SMU 3S, Texas 28.

NOVEMHKR AKRIVKI) WKDNESDAY, and no
trace of winter yet. The first frost can come any
time now, and we think Shackelford county lolk
are ready for a rain and cool weather. This sum- wjj|
mer heat in the afternoons is rather disagreeable.i meeting in
Shackelford county hasn't had rain for several'
weeks. Many wheat farmers are planting, and
ho|K> to get through before it rains. Others have
wheat up and needing rain.
Grass is good. Summer rains have caused grass
to grow bountifully. Dry weather creates a very
real danger, however, of pasture fires.

JACK F ARMER, Albany ranchman, recently
received 4,000 heretford calves, which have
been put on the Cook ranch here, which it
operated by Mr. Fat mer. The calves came from
Arizona and the Panhandle, and average 400
pounds. Each year Mr. Farmer buys calves
and holds them on his ranch until May.
Moving 4,000 head of cattle is quite an un-
dertaking.
