WORDSt WORD RODNIE to host Bible school
By Rev. Don Clevenger
First Assembly of God
COMMITTED TO THE CHURCH
In the book of Revelation this
strong admonition is repeated
seven times to the Church, "He
that hath an ear, let him hear
what the Spirit saith unto the
churches."
We've been through some dif-
ficult days, in the past year
especially. By "we," I mean the
CHURCH as a whole, not just the
Assemblies of God denomination.
The moral failure of prominent
ministers has given the enemies
of the cross more reasons to re-
joice. The cause of Christ has
been ridiculed and maligned, but
we must not fail to recognize that
even in times like this, God Is
Speaking To His Church! But
sometimes he has a difficult time
getting our attention, "He that
hath an ear, let him hear what the
Spirit saith to the Churches." We
must have an ear to hear.
The question the Body of Christ
should ask themselves is, Are We
Hearing What The Spirit Is Say-
ing To The Church? Are you
HEARING what God is saying to
you as an individual Believer? Am
I HEARING what the Lord is say-
ing to Me?
God in His wise providence pro-
vided two great institutions, the
Family and the Church, to bind
the fabric of society together. The
FAMILY is the only institution
which survived the flood. God
established the Family in the
Garden of Eden. The Family was
God's idea, not man's. The family
is the building block of society
and the Christian family is the
building block of the church. The
family has existed from the crea-
tion of man, the church is God's in-
stitution founded in the New
Testament. Both the Family and
the Church are under attack to-
day. Satan is bent on destroying
both of these great institutions.
In this article, I would like to
address the institution of the
CHURCH. The Church is a Divine
Institution, planned by God the
Father, founded by God the Son,
and empowered by God the Holy
Spirit.
Jesus Christ is the head of His
Church and membership in His
Church is possible only through a
personal relationship with Him.
God places high value on the
Church. Value is determined by
criteria such as purchase price,
function and utility. That which
costs us little or nothing, rarely is
held in high esteem. That which
offers little utilization is likewise
of little value to us. The Church
has such high value to God and to
us as believers because it was
purchased at an infinite price.
The Son of God paid the ultimate
grice of his own shed blood. The
pistle of Ephesians tells us that
Christ so loved the Church that
he gave himself for it. When peo-
ple lose sight of the purchase
price of the Church, they lose
respect for it. The Apostle Paul
had a profound respect for the
Church, because he recognized
that it is the purchased posses-
sion of Christ. The Church's
greatest function and utility is
that it serves as a glorious habita-
tion of God through the spirit.
Ephesians 2:22 tells us that we
"are builded together for an
habitation of God through the
Spirit."
The Church is the vehicle God
has chosen for spreading the
gospel. The human race is under
the death sentence, and Christ is
committed to the Church the only
message of deliverance. The
Church is a shining light in the
darkness of a crooked and
perverse generation.
The Church serves as the custo-
dian to preserve the Gospel as we
earnestly contend for the faith
which was once delivered unto
the saints. The Church serves as a
protection for the believer, as an
ark, it provides safety. A shelter
for the ninety and nine, a rescue
station for the one lost sheep.
The Church furnishes a com-
munity of fellowship for believers
with God and with one another; it
ties believers together in a bond
of brotherhood.
The book of Acts provides a
marvellous story of the develop
ment of the Church. Three thou-
sand souls were added to the
church on the first day. Conver-
sions, Miracles, Healings, and the
Baptism in the Holy Spirit were
the rule of the day. Persecution
only served to spread the
message of salvation to all parts
of the Roman world. Conflicts
arose, but they were settled by
prayer and wise counsel.
The Church has a three fold
mission. First is ministry to the
Lord {Praise, Worship, and
Discipleship). Second is ministry
to the Believer (Teaching and
Edification). Third is ministry to
the Lost (Evangelism).
We need a Spiritual Awakening
in our land today, Revival of
Prayer, and Revival of Repen
tance.
The Church has been likened to
the old ship of Zion, it has
weathered many a storml
Through the howling gale comes
the admonition of the great Apos
tie, "Except these abide in the
ship, ye cannot be saved."
It is true that the Church can
not save us; only Christ can do
that, But I prefer to take my
chances in the weather-beaten
hulk of the Church than the frail
canoes of this world!!
God has promised: "I will build
my church; and the gates of hell
shall not prevail against it."
I AM COMMITTED TO
CHRIST'S CHURCH!

This is my last article for
Bluebonnet Nursing Home. I have
enjoyed my position here and I
will miss everyone.
As of this date Mr. Gray has not
made a choice for my replace-
ment. I am sure by Friday the
17th there will be someone on
board.
These last three years as activi-
ty director have been a real learn-
ing experience and many of the
lessons I will carry with me the
rest of my life. Working for and
with the senior generation is a
joy.
I want to take this opportunity
to thank everyone who has made
my job so much easier, all the
church groups, the teachers that
bring out the children, the groups
that host the birthday parties, the
bands that entertain, the people
that take time from their busy
days to come out and visit with
the residents, the groups that
bring out items for bingo prizes,
families that donate magazines,
craft items, old clothes, anyone
who has every done anything for
someone here, you all help meet
the needs that I, as one person,
can not do, and I thank you.
The birthday party is set for
June 16 and I am the hostess. We
have two ladies celebrating, both
of whom are 84, and their birth-
days are two days apart. Edith
Jones and Lois Steele. We are so
happy to have Edith back with us.
Be sure and look for our float in
the Fandangle parade. Also, Mrs.
Lillian McCord, part of the Fan
dangle cast of 50 years ago, will
be in a car in the parade. We are
really looking forward to this.
Keep your fingers crossed that it
does not rain on our parade.
CARD OF THANKS
I would like to thank the ones
that sent cards, for prayers and
for phone calls and visits and
flowers while I was. in the
hospital.
Thanks to the Kiwanis of
Albany.
A special thanks to Bro. Lloyd
Conner for being there and being
with my family while I was in
surgery.

SEEDS FROM
THE SOWER
By Michael A. Guido, Metier, Georgia
There was a river in Greek
mythology named Lethe.
Every person who drank of
the water of that river forgot
every unpleasant thing.
But David could not for-
get his sin. That moment
of gratification brought a
lifetime of remorse. He
confessed with sorrow in
Psalm 51:3, "My sin is ever
before me."
A father told his son that
he had been too disobedient.
To teach him aii unforget-
table lesson the father drove
a nail in a post in the back
yard every time the son was
disobedient.
The sight of the post filled
with nails reminded the son
of his sins, and it hurt him.
He promised his father that
he would obey him. And
the father offered to pull
out a nail for each obedience.
When the last nail was
drawn the father called his
son to see that his record
was clear. To his surprise
he cried, "The scars are still
there!"
One may suffer without
sinning, but no one ever
sinned without suffering.
Sin and suffering are in-
separable.
It is better to keep away
from every kind of evil than
to pull out the nails. Let us
pray then, "Lord, keep us
clear of temptation, and
save us from evil."
