Oberlin will leave Friday for a
six weeks visit in Los Angeles.
She will be accompanied by her
daughter, Mrs. Dan C. Smith and
Mrs. Smith's two sons, Dan and

A miscellaneous shower was
given recently at the home of Mrs.
H. White for Miss Miller, bride-
elect of Dr. Simon Miron. About
40 guests were present.

tained last week with a luncheon
at the Smorgasbord dining room
of the Lamar Hotel honoring their
daughters, Mary Ann Plumb and
Jean Anderson, on their 16th
birthdays.
Mr. and Mrs. Gus Barkow of
6512 Mercer will leave Friday
morning for a vacation trip of
two weeks to Wewoko, Oklahoma.
Rev. and Mrs. J. Vernon Whee-
less of 2510 McClendon have re-
turned from a trip to California
where they visited their son, John.
He expects to be discharged from
the Navy soon and will attend
Baylor University in the fall.

drug, SN 7618, which surpasses
both quinine and atabrine in ef-
fectiveness, was developed by sci-
entists who tested 14,000 chemi-
cals, 7,000 of them being new com-
pounds concocted especially for
wartime research.
The discovery was revealed by
Prof. Carl S. Marvel of the Uni-
versity of Illinois at a meeting of
the American Chemical Society.
